Woody's Christmas Spectacular

May as well have it's own thread, not often we get to discuss a Christmas event...

So for the event we have a show in the Castle Theatre and Ice Skating. Show lasts around 2 hours and Ice Skating sessions are 45 mins.

How much does it cost I hear you say? Ice Skating is £9 for adults (over 18) and £7 for kids. And the show is £12 for adults, £10 for kids.

Plus, the new Tony's Pizza and Pasta buffet will be open. Where for £12.95 (or £8.95 for kids) you can help yourself to an unlimited buffet of food and drink.

I personally think the prices all seem quite fair, and you could can book everything online (Its actually a good way to see how popular the event is.... Show and Ice Skating tickets are selling well already, Tonys isn't at the moment).

I must say, I'm quite impressed with everything so far. It all seems very organised and well priced (having adults as 18+ is a good move). One thing they could do to further improve it is to have a few of the kids rides open for ticket holders, a nice way to make it seem better value for money.

I agree Martyn, the prices are reasonable compared to other events they have held.

I presume people are using Tony's a walk in venue???

I thought ice skating was good last year though, may visit this year.

Works out quite expensive for a family of 4 maybe? but i guess that's what things cost theses days.
Do you need to book for Tony's?

I agree opening a few rides would be good, like the mini railway and ride in the 'kids zone' even if they're giving time slots, like just open for a 2 hour period or something.

There is an option online when you book but like Martyn said, it is not in high booking demand.

It would make perfect sense to open it up as a walk-in restaurant. If Tony's is a permanent food store (which I think it is) then I see it as a walk-in restaurant. Who would want to book for a specific time? It's a theme park, people would much rather come when they want and not be restricted.

And people are most likely to bring their own food, or stop at Tesco on the way in.

Ice Skating and the show won't keep people there all day, so I guess some people may not see the need to eat in the park?

Also some people may not want to take the gamble as to whether the food would be any good or not. I can't imagine it'll be bad, the food at PWH has been pretty decent in recent years.

I'm sure it's both a booking and a walk in? but maybe i'm wrong.
Yes it's hear to stay.

Sounds like Adam needs help with this, what I would do is make combined Show and meal deal also do the same with the ice skating too.

Given how many bookings have already been made, I don't really think he needs help with it.

And whilst I agree that some sort of deal would be a good idea, £12 for a show ticket already seems like good value to me.

(Show and Ice Skating tickets are selling well already, Tonys isn't at the moment).

I am talking about Tonys Martyn, from your first post, the deal is to help sell food.

No point have Tonys if not being used.

But they're never likely to sell many bookings for food anyway, as I mentioned above.

I agree, I normally bring a picnic and go back to the car and eat it. I don't need to wait 20 mins in a line to get served low quality food.

Anyway, is anyone off to the Christmas event? Would be an ideal time to get some closed season pics ;)

Going by the other food that has been sold, they will need to pull all the stops out and sell better food.

It's been a long while since I've had really poor food from PWH. Maybe I just make good decisions when buying?

This year I had this pizza twist thing, with chips and a drink from Smokey Joe's. It was nice, and cost around £6.

But previously I'd always eat in the Merry Mariner, I loved the school canteen feel it had, and the food always looked and smelt good. Used to get like a pizza, chips and sausage roll. Again it used to be reasonably priced.

The Merry Mariner was the best place to go, but over the years had fair to poor food, i think if you went late in the day the food on display if left too long was drying up, as for the old main one doing the burgers had lots of problems from running out of food after waiting in a queue for a long time and the best one when the fridge pack-up and did not sell any food that day.

Does anyone know the capacity of the castle? I've just looked at ticket availability and there are hundreds left for most dates one evening there is over 400. Sadly doesn't seem to have sold much at all as yet.

It looks like 491 seats and possible space for wheelchairs.

1289 seats left over all the days the show is on, check 11:30 today) but they have still sold a lot, over on the food side very poor sales, more effort should have been put into this! management is poor this year! some good things but more bad things have happened to the park this year.

Like I said before, they'll never get many bookings for the restaurant as people can make their mind up on the day. Getting books for the show and Ice Skating are much more important.

One thing I don't get is why they aren't putting photos up on social media of the event? The park looking all festive etc? 3 days in now and there's just one photo of a tree sitting on a blue pallet (why they didn't cover it up with fake snow or presents etc I do not know...).

Yes thats my point, (they'll never get many bookings for the restaurant) this is going to be a loss maker, would have been better not to open in the first place!

So my colleague took her little ones to PWH today for the Christmas show. She said they had a reasonably nice time, but were disappointed to discover that the show was ''basically just singing with no real story''.

I will be interested to hear how you and your family get on Josh.

yesterdays final show of the production was a sell out. Some people moaned about the plastic skate rink . Maybe for next years they will improve that as it will enhance the event.

cant get the photo to rotate despite it showing the correct orientation when loaded up
