RE: Replacement for Tales of the Coast - 2016

If there was a long term plan of that style then it would be exciting. I have no faith that it would happen though based on current performance.

I can't imagine that TotC was demolished for a go kart track. There would be no reason to move the go karts really. If anything the TotC site I'd bigger than the current go kart track area.

Going along the lines of this being a part of a large project, I'm thinking this could be all a part of a new entrance plaza/area. It could look quite neat having a large Waveswinger as you enter the park. Especially with some real good landscaping around it.

The wave swinger TomTown found looks nice enough. I would welcome this if they install it in the ground, like they have been doing recently like with the doomed Tide Traveller.

Go kart track where TOTC was would be a tragic waste of space in my opinion. In fact I'd be sorely disappointed if the park went down this avenue. The only saving grace would be if a new very high quality outdoor play area where Fort Fun used to be were to replace the Go Karts...

Nah, so many other places for a good play area, put it next to the rattlesnake or better yet behind the Wave Breaker, no good wasting plots which could be home to some fantastic rides. It's bad enough the current playground is where it is.

So the thought of this going where TotC was isn't too bad of they really do go all out with a nice new entrance area, fully landscaped etc.

However, my main issues are:

- It's 2016, the Waveswinger has moved up in the world, by about 200ft. THIS would attract people to the park

- STOP teasing rides like this. They're building up hype for the most basic of basic theme park rides, leaving most people disappointed when they're announced. Especially given the impressive additions prior to Hyper Drive.

- They shouldn't even be advertising a Waveswinger as a new ride at Pleasurewood Hills. The park has had one continously for about 20 years now (maybe more...). Replacement for the current one or not, it really isn't anything new to PWH.

- If they did get the one linked on the other page (which looks incredibly likely), it's 23 years old for goodness sake! When are they going to start buying newer stuff? The park needs modernising badly.

- Of all the second hand rides for sale in Europe, they get this?!

@Bubbles would the rattlesnake be a bit too loud compared to other rides for a play area nearby?

@Martyn Would the park be able to get planning permission for such a high ride as the wind seeker; I remember talk of a taller megadrop tower and some rumour that it may be too tall. Also is the wind seeker safe?

The 60m drop tower was granted permission, so I wouldn't see any issue with a Star Flyer.

ah ok, I think i remember now that it was. The views from a Star Flyer would be amazing, especially looking out to the coast. I'd say that a Star Flyer would surely be the scariest ride at the park - would people even dare go on it!

With the Wave Swinger, the park could have gone down a route of saying 'The return of a classic' rather than hyping it as something brand new unless they were going to re-theme it completely for the park.

As for the location if it is going where TOTC was, then it could look quite impressive when it is in operation at full height when visitors enter.

Yeah Rattlesnake would be to loud which is why next to the wave breaker, behind the kids zone is the best place for it. They already have a few bits and bobs around there (clown slide)

I reckon the Wave swinger will get a whole new theme, they did it with the Magic Mouse and Dodgems, so i guess they'll do their own thing. If it is the one from the web posted id be quite pleased with that, it's good fun. As long as you can still get parts for them it doesn't matter how old it is, PWH is only a small park and like cars you can't beat a classic.

Plus the parks target demographic won't care as long as they're having fun, got too remember most people who visit are kids and casual guests, not theme park die hards like some of you guys. lol

It's not really the ride that bothers me if the removal of TOTC.

Edit:  That web site has an really old Enterprise listed... excited    Go on Woody...... accidentally click the buy button  lol

Well regardless of your personal issues with the previous management, you can't deny that they seemingly saved the park, and moved it on to the next level.

Hobs Pit and the 2013 Chills event were just miles ahead of anything I would expect PWH to accomplish.

If you're only interested in joining to see who this PWH employee is, I'm not going to help you.

I thought the previous management were great, the rides were cool the marketing was top notch, really enthusiastic about things. Yes the Chills even was special, the 30th anniversary was good, they couldn't have done much better.
But they kept Coolskin out of the loop, where's now he's getting inside information.

To be far that 'PWH employee' is only a ride operator, so his experience of things might be a bit different.

RE: Waveswinger - New for 2016

Thanks Matt. Got some new photos from the 80s to scan in for you at some point, including the roller skate area.

Hi Folks,

I have been out of the loop for a while. I thought the park had investment from a French company - Hobs pit etc - ??? Has this fallen through now? Or is it same investment but new onsite management?

Either way the whole thing smacks of serious lack of funds! Last year seemed disappointing following the heights of Hobs Pit - world awards etc.

Are we heading back to the dark ages again - ??

I have a huge passion for dark Rides but to do them well costs a lot and flat rides will be a cheaper option. Flatrides will only draw in the crowds if they are unique and decent. Waveswinger is a decent retro ride but nothing new as are tarted up dodgems!

I hope PWH continues to develop TOTC into something unique but I fear not........

ultimately it will all come down to what the management want to persue....

From the new map it appears that the area for TOTC has been replaced with a wave swinger, unless TOTC is being moved somewhere else for a potential dark ride.

Good point about the dark ride conversion being a more expensive option compared to the purchase of the wave swinger , especially if they wanted it as good as Hobs Pit.

Its probably too expensive to build a new dark ride same for converting TOTC, Personally I think a good dark ride inside the castle would be amazing, Something family friendly.

I have to say I'm disappointed, I would have rather seen them refurbish the boat ride and give it a new theme - don't they already have a Wave Swinger anyway?

The park used to have a Waveswinger many years ago (going back to '88) - not sure when it was taken away though.  PWH then invested in a smaller version called Sky Hooks which has now been removed this season.

If the castle is considered for a dark ride, the park then loses a good space for entertainment shows etc. It would be silly to knock it down completely however that depends on what it is replaced with. Would be interesting to know opinions on whether the castle should be removed for a New coaster, converted into a dark ride or refurbished for entertainment shows as it currently is.

They couldn't replace the castle with a coaster because the noise/houses at the back, other wise they may as well demolish the rubber digney slide and put one there instead. Or replace the Go Kart Track.

Castle should be used for shows first and foremost in my opinion, but putting a ride inside could be a nice touch, i sometimes think Hobs pit should have been put inside it instead but never mind.

But knowing them they'll pull it down for a larger Tea cup ride.

1996 was the last season of our former one, it was replaced with a very sleek looking paint up of enterprise which became phoenix for one season only before being sold on

Couldn't the park park put sound proofing fences (like tivoli friheden) around the perimeter?

Yeah I've always thought that they could stick some glass walls in the woods, that way they wouldn't be an eye sore.

Alot of the rides before CDA and Looping owned the park were rented from Hank Bembom. That's why many of the rides only saw one or two seasons at the park.

Now that totc is dug up there should be room for a few excellent thrill/flat rides so hopefully we'll get some.
One of the negatives is while they develop their new baby other parts of the park continue to suffer.
