RE: Pleasurewood Q&A 2015

The garden area outside is actually really nice, with the pond and fountains etc. They just need to do something with the exterior of the building.
Hopefully the guys at the Hills will keep an eye on the development at Thorpe Park, to see just how popular dark rides are.

Hell, surely the crazy hype and popularity of Hobs Pit is enough for them to see that....

Still less maintenance and cheaper run if they scrap the tunnel, and I guess that's what the Hills really want.

And the idea that Hyper drive was added as a 'filler' attraction when they already had a dodgem 'filler' attraction still doesn't make any sense, maybe the owners didn't know they already have one.

This pirate idea for TotC sounds alright, but it sounds like it'll be mainly aimed at kids. It just sounds like what I'd expect of the Safari ride (sound effects etc). Same for the Pony Rail really. They're both kids rides so little surprise features dotted around the place would be good. But the ride hardware of TotC is that of a main ride. It takes up a large area and should be considered a major family ride. Turning it into something like the Safari Adventure (different theme obvs) would be a waste IMO.

And a cowboy retheme of the Pony Rail sounds cool, but wouldn't be a top priority for me.

Pony rail needs a proper theme, I can't believe they didn't bother with one when it was installed.

Id prefer if they just kept TOTC as it is then this all open attraction with a few pirate statues dotted the place, Gee, it's kinda worrying and more so that I kinda hope it doesn't happen now. A run down TOTC sounds far more appealing.

How do you know it's going to just have s few pirates dotted all over the place? I think judgement should be reserved for when, or even if, it is actually rethemed.

I'm in two minds about the removal of the indoor section of Tales of the Coast. The view from the main entrance is of a rather uninspiring green building. Once the indoor section is removed, the view would be much more striking. The mock-up's looked great too, and I liked the idea of water spurts and cannon sounds going off as you make your way around.

However, I can see your point of view, Martyn. The indoor section does offer a bit of variety and something different from the norm... Perhaps a different/shorter indoor section could be an option? Maybe a visit to a rowdy pub frequented by pirates could form part of the storyline?

Brilliant answers, thanks for passing them on! I do hope they keep TOTC a dark ride though!

I've had an update from the park; they say that removing the indoor section is just an idea at this stage. It sounds like the decision to keep or remove it will depend on the final concept and the cost of renovations.

The park are also considering further theming work for the Jolly Roger over this winter.

^ Now that is very welcome news! I'm not really bothered about a theme, just remove some of the tack! I really like what Thorpe Park did with Detonator. Just a nice basic theme really, with wooden planks surrounding the raised platform, and nice garden areas around the ride.

Going down the same route as what they did with the Pirate Ship would be good.

Yes, I am all for JR being tidied up and some of the fair ground stuff removed. I hope they do that.

That's good news, pity it wont get re-located to a more suitable location, it will need quite a bit done to it to make it look good where it currently is.

I agree Bubbles. I wish they hadn't removed all them trees that were behind it, it would have looked so much better with them as a back drop.

I'd like a re-theme of the whole pirate area (TOTC, PS and JR). Some figures, gallions, treasure or cannons could look very good. They could also re-theme the play area. I hate those boards with the faces on them on the back of the platform, they look tacky and ruin the view of enigma.

Them back boards aren't great, but you don't want a view of Enimga!lol IMO they need to fill that between the two rides. It looks far too bare.

A pirate area could be cool. You could even include (a rethemed) Enigma, Timber Falls and Sea Lion show. Marble Madness would stand out a bit though!lol

Yeah that's a tough one really. There's already a circular concrete base where Red Baron is, so it would be a sort of waste to then stick Jolly on top of that. It should be kept for a permanent addition, like a Star Flyer or S&S Space Shot (neither of which are beyond the realms of a possibility).

Been saying that since they had it,  it's prime location of a main ride, it has a ready make queue line and a nice grassy lunch aria in front.  Plus being central if can be seen almost anyone in the park, and the view would be better.  They could make a really good looking permanent looking theme.

Red Baron would be better suited to the kids zone I think.

I'd prefer to see something thrilling like an air race, sky fly or another enterprise.

Sorry for bumping an old topic but my two pennies worth

Well this has been an interesting read. With regards to what we know now, If TOTC gets a Pirate theme, and Jolly Rodger is themed well, then this opens up the potential for the Enigma retheme to Cannon Ball express which would add a real flavour to that area, if they installed a few speakers playing background music, then PWH would really have an area to be proud of.

SITG getting it's tunnel sorted would be nice to see again, the current tunnel just makes me think it looks so tacky.

As I said elsewhere, I don't think TTT will ever run properly again and that the park should get rid and replace it.

If they go through with this, I hope they keep the maintenance up and don't let the effects get shabby and in a state of disrepair.

Makes sense to have a pirate area, but Hyper Drive was phase 1 of this area development, and that's more futuristic than Pirate.

I don't think they're going to have a theme running through, i hope not anyway.. it would work with the new Hyperdrive or the recent cartoon character coaster. plus it doesn't sound like they're having a boat ride anymore.

Maybe they went back and bought Knightmare after all :D

What if Marble Madness was converted into an indoor/enclosed ride and changed to a mining theme with mine train carriages. It could then be linked or a continuation of hobs pit.  You could have speakers inside the ride playing noises you'd hear in a mine.

To build on the Pirate theme, SITG could be could be based on snakes on a pirate ship, a bit like the Samuel Jackson film on a plane tongue

They could turn the trains into mine carts. Theme the whole top area to a mine theme, get rid of the go carts and put another coaster in, relocate the arcade and game stalls and move the merry go round back to the entrance.

As for the pirate area, it could go up to where tales of the coast was in one direction (if it's even going to have anything to do with pirates anymore) and then transition into a tropical/beach theme for wipeout.

I wonder if the rattlesnake theme works better because of the loud noise made by the coaster.

The beach theme for the Wipeout sounds like it could work.

They'll have to re-name the Park Pleasure Beach Hills, or Pleasure pirates lol
