An April Fool 2001

A Suffolk home for the Millennium Dome?

The Millennium Dome may find a permanent home in Suffolk, following a £1 million bid from Peter Hadden, owner of New Pleasurewood Hills near Lowestoft. He plans to cover 17 acres of the leisure park with the Dome, to make New Pleasurewood Hills an all-weather, around-the-year attraction.

His offer was sent yesterday to Henry Butcher, the auctioneers who are dealing with the sale of the contents of the Dome. He will find out whether his bid is successful in the next few weeks.

"This will be the answer to all my weather related problems" said Peter who, with wife and co-owner Peggy had a private tour of the Dome in February. "All outdoor leisure parks rely to a certain extent on the weather. If I can guarantee that visitors to New Pleasurewood Hills will be protected from the elements, there is no reason why we couldn't open throughout the year - come rain or shine."

It is not the first time Peter has done battle with the weather. In August 1996, Peter achieved media fame when he criticised national weather forecasters for being unnecessarily cautious, showing black clouds on bright days.

Found over on the way back machine. Some very interesting things on there from 12 years ago.
