The place makes me sad. I dont know if its because I was a kind back then, but when I was young, I loved the place, but now, it just seems so tired and unloved.
Granted, the Council are putting the effort in, the actual sea front area looks nice on their part (lamposts, pavements etc), but attractions wise, its just, eh.
Wally's Windmill, anyone remember that? An amazing indoor play area, and even when that closed, it reopened as Ripley's Believe it or Not, which was great. Yet its still that awful indoor crazy golf.
The very old "Empire" building near Joyland sits there boarded up and derelict.
Also, anyone else remember the Ghost Busters tower, the laser game and motion simulator? Fab.
The Winter Gardens is still sitting empty and looking like a derelict mess, as well as one of the pubs next to the Flamingo arcade.
Yarmouth, as well as the Pleasure Beach, was a great place in the 90's, but now, its just so, so run down, and it does make me sad, as I have a special place in my heart for Yarmouth, childhood memories etc. Its like the Pleasure Beach has followed suit with the rest of the sea front, and got worse as the years have gone by.
LOL, I forgot to mention that. I said today as we walked past it that its looking very, very tired. But, give them credit, its still going!
Definitely could do with a revamp though, its long over due.
Also, I noticed that the large Bingo Hall on Regent Street has closed down! Thats another establishments thats been there for generations, but no more!
Something else I forgot to mention, we got back to the car (we always park in that little free parking area opposite the Winter Gardens) at around 5:20, yet the Pleasure Beach had closed already, whats that all about, its the Easter holidays still?!
Fantasy Island and the Pleasure Beach in Skegness stay open until late evening all through the school holidays!
There is no one around early evening out of main season, having spent so much time with many people in their buisnesses on the seafront as my other half does a lot of work with them all they all tell you different stories of years gone by and how it is going, nowadays its grandparents taking the kids out more as they r the ones who have the money to do. Yarmouth is still tacky for sure yet it still is the jewel on the east coast resorts simply becasue there is nothing else.
If this casino gets the go ahead it will shut the hollywood cinema so another empty building, the empire had a tenant last year and i got to see inside the work that was taking place sadly it fell through around may time last year.
