RE: Alton Towers

Not surprised. Quietest I ever seen when I went last week. It's a shame really.

They did say numbers were down since the accident, think I heard an 8% drop in revenue.
But I doubt it'll hurt them too much, by next season everyone would have forgotten.

As suspected all along, human error to blame...

Maybe the media will stop scare mongering now and leave merlin alone.

Oh no, th13teen stopped and people had to be evacuated from a staggering 50 ft in the air. Regular, everyday events such as coasters breaking down make it into national newspapers and these things definitely didn't have anything to do with with straight forward problems that anyone who ever goes to theme parks will see all the time......

will still be a tough couple of years ahead for the UK theme park world

Not seen a mention on here yet.

From Towersstreet Facebook a few days ago.

Sources close to the park have stated Alton Towers are to close Sub-Terra, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Driving School, Hex, Flume and Ripsaw for the 2016 season.

We understand that Ripsaw and The Flume could be removed entirely.

ripsaw no surprises, flume like thorpes mack flume shut all year. altons is in the way of the long term future plan as is ripsaw which is dying.

Charlie likely to be down to sponsorship, hex is the odd one.

as I have said a tough few seasons as yet for all our parks

oddly no mention of the blade which should have gone in march this year......

God, if they get close ripsaw then they really need some good flats, especially given the amount Thorpe has.

So reduced opening times for 2016 have been confirmed by the park and no Feb half term. However TLC scheme announced promising to spruce up the park with things like paintwork and paving being worked on.

The big news is the Air retheme. I'm intrigued by this as some are hinting at VR which would be brilliant! I have seriously liked the look of VR on coasters so will be intrigued to try it. I'm imagining flying through space or something like that; near missing asteroids etc. Would make sense with the theme of the announcement.

Ripsaw appears to be in bits which is adding to the rumours of removal - I personally wouldn't mind if this went along with CATCF and Flume as I honestly never really worry about riding them. I have been on the Flume in years. The concerning rumour for me is Hex as that is still one of the best experiences in the park!!

The air retheme certainly sounds interesting! It's the perfect coaster for the VR experience IMO.

Maybe they'll finally make it like the original promotional videos?! ;)

I think it will be phenomenal if that is the case. As for the retiring ride/s could there be anything PWH could get their mitts on? The ride system and boats from CATCF would be great for their planned refurb of TOTC. A bit unrealistic though!

If it's not in too bad shape then Ripsaw could be quite a good acquisition for the Hills but wouldn't really bode well for potential maintenance issues.

Ripsaw is now in the car park of alton towers loaded up and ready for the scrap heap, although I assume maybe it goes back to huss or they may butcher bits of it to keep rameses revenge going which is almost also dead.

R.I.Psaw thanks for many good rides and laughs

full line up to be revealed jan 12th I understand.

Merlin pass sale starts Jan 1st and currently Alton resort are doing up to 35% off stays.

Loved Ripsaw, its settings always varied yet one trip this year it was severe and it was always a good spectacle

Was it that RIPSAW was just too expensive to maintain?

It was knackered... Being used as spare parts for the topspin at Heide Park.

Galactica & Rollercoaster Restaurant will hopefully prove to be solid additions this year. Park are being worryingly quiet on the 2016 lineup front though and are giving the TLC plan absolutely no social coverage as well which is disappointing.

The only thing known for sure to be happening is that Nemesis is getting a full track repaint - coverage spotted on TowersStreet.

Good, now how about collossus? I did like nemesis with the faded paint though, it really made it look like it was part of the landscape.

No idea! But I've heard good things about TLC from people in the know.

Nothing else yet - only the ones that could be seen from the car parks. There is some other good stuff supposedly planned for TLC though.
