Hills have eyes firework and laser finale trip report

Arriving into the car park at around 1pm the car park was almost ALL full.

Quite a queue to get in the park and only ONE booth open and it was taking sometime to get in the park......

Parrot show was full so had to miss that...

Wipeout next and that was great and the usual 6 seats with teddy bears strapped in....

Quick plate of seasonal food in the old bbq area and it was off to the heaving circus show, only one show a day at 2pm - even in the summer - this we were told due to the fact the cast go off site and perform elsewhere ?? What was once the 800 seat theatre is now reduced and it was very cramped, good show and will this be the last we see of them ? Hmmm......

Saw the Laser Labrinth ( however you spell it ) there was a queue yet we did not wait. I stood on the bridge and I can confirm the bridge IS the old bridge that was used in main square over the railway. There was NO signage of any sort of the laser labrinth around the park that I saw and certainly nothing for ANY new attractions for 2012 - what a total waste of publicity. The park was SO busy and people would have been buzzing and spread the word if there was something to promote 2012 - very disappointing.

Down to the sealions next, and whilst we were in the queue I had a good look around......

Fireball looks an absolute disgrace, it just looks TERRIBLE.

The new kids mini drop tower is laying next to the maintenance yard alongside the return of the star ship enterprise - yet I could only see the cars ? Along the old entrance road was the blue enigma car just dumped on mounds of earth and loads of other junk including two log flumes.....

Sealions were great. By the time we got to enigma ( just after 4pm ) it was shut - we were told this was because they wanted to get people down to the fireworks ( some 90 minutes until they were due to launch ) So the last lucky people had a go on enigma and we went on the Pirate ship and was told if we needed to get off he would bring the ride down if we gave a certain symbol to him....and told no standing up either.....

Fireball next to actually ride it, could smell burning around that way and around 5 maintenance guys appeared...... shame that the ride does not light up fully, why do they only light part of it? none of the seats actually had their lights on and then when we got off after its ever bizzare ride cycle some of the lights went off and then on again around the time people started to walk down to the lake.... and still only ONE full swing each side. Wasted !!!

We gathered in main square and the lighting around the house they built was poor on some sides and you could not see what was happening let alone hear what was being said by the pre recorded tape..... Woody and fergus darkbear appeared and then they had a tussle with the witches and then down to the lake it was....

Lots and lots of people, the area to the rattlesnake and toilets was all sectioned off and then a mobile disco unit played some random music. A laser show started, it was a green laser and showed over the trees in the forest....not sure it got its full potential.........although they said to stand as near the rattlesnake as you could ( ! ) to get the best view.....

Then the fireworks a good bang and the acoustics around the lake and park were great.....

Pumpkins were a pound each on the way out it said by the gate, yet there were not any by the gate. Most people had picked them up during the day and they were paying as they left......

Leaving the car park was total chaos for my friend who took at least 20mins to get out, we parked near the bottom so it was not too bad....no lighting at the car park exit that I saw....people hooting their horns....was all quite bad - yet this was solely down to bad drivers not the park as there is enough room for two way traffic. All this noise is enough to make local people complain and put evening events at the park under threat....

So overall not too bad, still need to improve on the lighting and do something to fill in the gaps....if you cant ride the bigger rides you had to wait from 4ish until 5.45pm for anything else much to happen.... such a shame not many rides working after 4pm, the log flume dripped off around 4.30pm I think...... You see from what I saw and heard people WANT to ride in the dark..and this is where PWH are missing out on the final night and indeed the whole week......

**titbits**..... saw the empty patch that clownside has left, the new wood support for pony trek plus I found the track !!!  and also thunderstruck in bits......

People still paying to get in at 4pm.......

Will add more stuff if I remember tomorrow yet I had to do this write up now as wanted to share it all with you.

Pictures will follow............

Thanks coolskin, great little report. From what you've said it does seen like there was a lack of organisation for the event.

One show a day for the circus show is stupid. I really hope there is more next year with the new act, especially as the shows at PWH are actually better than at a lot of other parks.

No advertising for new attractions in 2012....CRIMINAL!!! A big wasted opportunity, even though the drop tower isn't fully confirmed there are three definates!

Exactly Josh, such a waste of advertising....... It was wrong.........!!!

Looking back I think the reason it was so busy was because it had been well published and a lot of people I saw were also there last year too..... That and Halloween is pushed and pushed more and more each year by all companies....

Halloween is big business and I myself have started looking forward to it every year because the of the Halloween events, scare mazes etc that are on offer from theme parks. It also brilliantly coincides with a school holiday so it is a big win for companies.

It's good that the park was very busy, it would have been nice not to have had so many negatives from your report though. I just hope that a lot of things are ironed out for next year as it seems from your report and others throughout the year that the park does struggle to cope with high numbers, with ride reliability and with infrastructure for the big events. If these problems can be eradicated next year then I can see a very successful and image boosting year for the park.

Exactly, hearing what some people were saying though yesterday was hurtful to our little park - yet sadly very true. These were ordinary people around the park and in the queues. Right I must get back to work.

Gosh, Fireball is looking a right mess, and so is the surrounding area!

What is that stuff in the last picture? The Pony ride is under Tidal Wave, The small tower and Enterprise next to Fireball, so whats down there....

 Fireball looks awful.....

In the last photo dumped along the old entrance road are two log flumes, the blue enigma car, and loads of earth and sheets or covers. No new rides or anything hid up !!!

Well one thing that I thought if the circus show is now all finished, then what of their caravans that occupy the bottom half of the maintenance yard ?
