Trip Advisor


I swear we had a topic about Trip Advisor but I can't find it so here is a new one.

 

I have just been reading through some of the reports of TA and I must say that they paint the park in a very bad light.  A small handful are very positive which are really nice to read but the majority are in most cases scathing to say the least.

 

I don't have a problem with people posting their views good or bad but it really does wind me up when the majority of comments on TA are unfounded.

 

Kids thought it was ok, but rides were old and boring. Expensive rubbish

How does this comment actually pass as a review.  That is it. 

Within eight minutes we knew we'd wasted our money. The park was tiny. The rides were extremely tired and I know for a fact are the originals from over 25 years ago as I remember going there as a child a few years after it opened. They've simply changed the names of the rides so it seems like they're new.

You've got to be joking surely.  Knew within eight minutes?  She also knows for a fact that all the rides were the same as 25 years ago.  Crazy. 

Anyway there are more like it and it makes for a frustratingly entertaining read.

One other review did catch my attention though and it seems way too outlandish to be true but why would someone make this up?

It's a review about a girl who was sick on the chairlift and was subsequently told to leave the park.  She was a Leukimia sufferer and was told by a duty manager to leave or the police will be called.

People are sick at theme parks day in day out so why would Pleasurewood Hills throw somebody out of the park for being sick, it makes no sense!

The majority of other reviews are mainly disappointment of rides or attractions being out of action on their visit.  I know there has been some downtime this season especially with Wipeout being out of action for a few days so I can understand the frustration of vistors when that is the main attraction!  It seems that the positive reviews are from people who have not experienced attraction downtime which appears to be the main problem.  Hopefully next year the added rides will be enough to suffice any unforseen downtime.

There's no excuse for some of the tripe written on TA though!

It does make for painful reading, doesn't it! I think if there is any degree of truth to the "being sick and getting thrown out" story there must be so much more to it, and I'm surprised that the people on Trip Advisor allowed that one to go online without knowing the full details.

Anyway, I've put a glowing review of the Laser Labyrinth online... to anyone else who went; why not add your views too!?

I emailed the reviewer regarding the incident on the chairlifts. It turns out the park (or member of staff) thought the girl was spitting from the chairlift, which I would gather is a removable offence. The park representatives then didn't believe that it was sick.

Now if that is what actually happened and it escalated the way that the reviewer suggests then I would say that the park were terribly in the wrong. All it would take is an explanation and for the park representatives to understand the situation. It is hard to gauge as we don't know exactly what happened after the incident though.

 

The problem with these reviews though is you only get one side of the situation so it is really difficult for any prospective visitor to the park to get a good idea of what's true, correct, embellished or as a lot of review on TA are, which is just pointless and not constructive in the least.

What you read on trip advisor reguarding that incidence is complete rubbish and is not what happened at all, the facts on what happened was there, and  the evidence and witnesses was there, there was no mistake in what she was doing and it was nothing to do with being sick. There is a big difference between Sick and Spittle... and this was not sick :)

I take it you were involved then Datman, it's good to have 2 points of view as I said TA is one sided. I knew there had to be more to the situation. Datman what is the park's policy on people spitting from the chairlift?

I have used TA, but only for Hotel reviews abroad. I dont think many, if any will use them for theme parks/days out, surely?

If you're thinking of going to PWH, or Ligh****er Valley, you check their websites.

 The way i look at it if they are old enough to relise what they are doing then management are involved , espeicially if other customers or staff are involved, ie being spat apon, but in general the youngsters who find it funny to spit while on the ride get a good stern talking to when they get off at the end of the chairlift and if their parents are about a quick word with them normally sorts them out, lucky enough there has not been that many issues of people doing this on the chairlift this season , amazing how some people find this thing amusing when its disgusting and can compleatly ruin a families day out at the park :)

The problem with TA is if you go to the trouble of posting something it would have to be something quite bad. However if you look at the wall on Facebook there are tones of positive comments.

You certainly have and it's great that the majority of reviews are 4 and 5 stars of recent. There's a 1 star review near the top where the guest couldn't fit on Fireball and it ruined her day and she received a refund! She said she had a great time on Wipeout, Jolly Roger, Pirate Ship, couldn't fit on Fireball, day ruined, full refund. I mean that's crazy, I have trouble getting on KMG Afterburners and once had to do the walk of shame on Fireball, how does it ruin one's day I do not know. The problem is that some people just look for reasons to complain, which really grinds my gears!

It's so tricky for theme parks to get positive comments (particularly in the UK) as one breakdown or hiccup can cause a day to be ruined for some. It's great to see that the park are doing so well on social media this season though!

While it's good news, nobody takes those sties seriously, well hotels and holiday resorts certainly don't as people tend to put up negative reviews for the sake of it or false ones. So i've been told anyway.

I actually think it's a great site for hotels and resorts if you're travelling abroad. When I went to Portugal I went through many recommendations from reviewers on there, including a couple of restaurants that I wouldn't have known existed if I hadn't seen them on the site - had a fantastic time. People that post bad reviews are usually responsibly for their plight I think...

...Being too big for Fireball? The person was obviously slightly overweight. No one's fault but their own. Excuse me for any insensitivity, but if 99% of everyone else can ride, how can they penalise the park for it? I'm not trying to be facetious or anything, it's just people often seem to whinge about stuff that is really quite trivial at times...

Believe it or not, our directors at HIG Capital look at 2 things. 1) The Figures. 2) Trip Advisor. - If the figures are not looking good they use Trip Advisor as a gauge to see what the customer experience is like on park - which will ultimately affect figures if service is poor. I've also come from a corporate background within a Multi-Million Pound Company. Guess how they use Trip Advisor?

It has now become a tool a lot of people use and are actually swayed by. Through the recent Groupon offer we attracted a lot of people outside of our usual catchment area (Nottinhgam, Gatwick and Stoke to name a few) - without Trip Advisor these guests wouldn't know anything about us other than what's on our website. The use of Trip Advisor allows potential visitors to review guest experience at an attraction before they visit. - If we looked like we did back in 2011, I believe a lot of guests who chose to visit us via Groupon wouldn't of actually came. :)

But a lot of the negative reviews we all have to take with a pinch of sault, and common sense.
A negative review might not really be a negative review like the example giving above regarding a guest being too fat.

You'll always have crap reviews crop up but if the park are doing thins right - the majority will outweigh the minority. Which is great as this has been the case this year!

Just took a look through TA again. It's looking great, majority if reviews for pages and pages are 4 or 5 stars! Ben you may wanna see if you can get a review (October 9th) deleted as it's clearly meant for Pleasure Beach and rates it 2 stars.

Thanks Josh - Noticed that when it was posted, a message has been sent to TA. Regarding the 'weight' of TA within the industry, I was at the Annual Visitor Attraction Conference (VAC 2013) in London last week and great emphasis was placed on TA. Not so much to use perhaps as a tool, but to ensure you're observing it and being pro-active in getting positive reviews on it. Ignore TA at your peril.

Just had a quick look at the recent Trip Advisor reviews. Some are very, very positive and some not so much. One thing that stands out is things like over flowing bins, poor toilet maintenance and things like that. This stuff is the easy stuff and should not be an issue anywhere! Despite some poor points made by a lot of guests the main consensus was that it was still an enjoyable day out. I just wish PWH would sort out the simple things like the rubbish and hiding old bits of machinery away from view, broken bits etc.
