RE: Halloween 2011 - The Hills have Eyes...

To be fair to them though, they run from like 11-9 every day during Scarefest and cost a hell of a lot to run when you take into account the expense of building them, planning music/sfx/technical aspects and then hiring and training live actors to work inside them - plus they tend to change them each year to keep people coming back. It makes sense that one is kept free however.

Also, if they were all free, think of the queues! When you pay you get a timeslot (I think) to go into the maze in, so therefore in theory you don't have to waste all day queuing for your maze :)

I've been to Altons scarefest once, and Thorpe's Fright Nights many times, and whilst the queue's were long, I didn't overly care. I would be really annoyed at paying SO much to get in, to then have to pay extra for the main attractions.

Yes but, if all 3 mazes were free - the queues would be astronomical! Towers is too pricey these days and a hell of a lot of upselling takes place, but for the mazes to remain world class in quality, they kinda have to charge. It would be great for them to be free, but between Merlin's money-grabbing and the quality of the mazes declining, I think most people would choose the money grabbing tbh.

Well we know from the main free one "The Terror of the Towers", that the queues can be phenomenal so I suppose it makes sense. And yes Mrbrightside the additional cost to design, build and run the scare mazes is huge. That's not the discussion though. :)

The thing is, they weren't when I had visited before, and there certainly wasn't a lack of quality about them either.

That does actually!

With how imaginative the team at PWH are nowadays, I'd LOVE too see them attempt a dark ride! They've shown they have enough ability to do it themslves.

And tbh, ANYTHING would be better than TotC.

Whoever the team are that work behind the scenes on theming etc, they definitely need a raise... Whilst they have nowhere near the money or resources of something such as Merlin Studios - they create some pretty nice stuff!

The effort on the 'witches house' is particularly impressive considering it is only for one week!

I have to say that is friggin' awesome! I love it. The art and design guys at PWH really have stepped up the quality of the attractions and this again is a brilliant example of what they are capable of. We did meet the guy responsible for the art and design in the Laser Labyrinth the other day, can't remember his name though?

So did anyone go today? I believe Sam (voiceoverguy) said he was going. How was it? Did you get any good pictures? Is the Laser Labyrinth queueline now finished? So many questions...

@JunglePR @pwhills £87 to get into pleasurewood hills, 3 of the major rides not working, pay extra for laser game & closes at 4pm. Not good

This from someone on their Twitter page..... Voiceoverguy can you confirm any of the 3 rides not working ??

Enigma, Wizzy Dizzy and obviously thunderstruck not working. TOTC open but faulty and incredibly slow. Laser broke down early morning but then re-opened later on with many a "oh, £3 fee.. Perhaps not.." Halloween theming very good, especially house in market square, however I never saw it used. The main feature was Stich hiding everywhere and walking behind people and making people jump in castle theatre.

Main street, and entrance had Pleasurewood FM Halloween continuous music in the background, I think I heard witch doctor about 10 times that day. No sign of Fergus Dark Bear, the witches were out and wandering but if I'm completely honest and i'm sure Laurence will read this and no offence what so ever is to be taken by this, but just looked like a coupe of ladies walking round not quite sure what to do, with some extreme make up on, I was slightly more embarrassed for them than scared.

Most of staff were halloween dressed, with blood smeared clothes etc which was good. It was still pretty quiet but it's October so you know! Circus show was changed to fit in with the Halloween theming, too much to mention but it was a delightful change.

All around the park were the "eyes" stuck on the side of rides etc. I'm sure this was effective..for the kids.

All round good day.. But a few disappointments. Hey ho!

To think the park has not been open for a bit, to hear rides down and a real main one fireball is very dissapointing and worrying. Good to hear there is plenty of halloween themeing around. I shall be asking via Facebook before I go if all is working...... There has not been any mention on twitter or fb that rides are down is or has there ?

For a park that actually doesn't have many rides it does tarnish the park's reputation when there are rides that are down. I know next year there are possibly going to be a few more rides so when 1 or 2 are down it's not so much of a big deal but at the moment with Thunderstruck already out of action for the winter it is terrible to have two of the main rides out of action. Looking at Trip Advisor the other day the rides being down issue is the main problem with the park at the moment. When people come for the day and experience this it would be nice for the park to issue Free Laser Labyrinth entry to all park guests as form of compensation, that way people leave feeling a little disappointed but also feel happy that the park have tried to rectify the situation. A small gesture can go a long way for some people and that would certainly paint the park in a better light.

As for communication about rides being down, I for one haven't seen any. I think in this age of communication it is inexcusable to not inform people of ride closures.

I remember a shocking start to the season a few years back when several of rides (inc. many of the 'major' ones) were simply not ready and they allowed free turns on the Go-Karts.

This should have been in operation this weekend with the 3 rides mentioned out of service. In fact i would say Go-Karts and Lazer Labyrinth for free, surely they want people to return next year?

I do not think the park should be charging full admission fee anyhow when shutting at 4pm. In previous years they haven't. To add to it the clocks haven't gone back yet, and its still daylight at 5pm this year so why the 4pm close?

I remember that Andy. I think it was because the Waltzers were removed, so they had the Go-Karts free, dont know how long for though.

The only ride I ever seem to have a bit of bad luck with is Enigma, seems to break down quite a long, especially towards the end of the day. As for that guy on Twitter, £87? his fault for not looking out for vouchers really, they are everywhere! But I'll repeat what I said earlier in the year, no new rides for 4 years, so they open one you have to pay extra for, its obviously people wouldn't be happy really.
