Another Major New Ride Confirmed!

That will go on improving the landscape of the park and two major mega-rides including a 55-metre drop down tower which is to be considered by planners at Waveney District council tomorrow. Details of the second mega-ride have yet to be announced.

Let the speculation begin....

RE: Another Major Ride Confirmed!

So this confirms what he said on BBC Radio Norfolk... I'd hope for either a new coaster (though that would use up the whole budget presumably) or a permament thrill ride / rapids type ride.

It's hard to say what it is going to be. £2.5m isn't a massive amount when rides are concerned but maybe it will be a very decent second hand ride on the same scale hopefully as Wipeout was.

Wipeout was only £1 million (according to wikipedia)

There you go then, 2.5m has got to cover the two new rides etc so maybe they'll be looking in the region of spending that per ride. As long as they are good rides with decent theming and attract the punters then it's all good.

I could have sworn Wipeout was more like £3m?

I wouldn't mind better that was the initial purchase from AA. It needed a shed load of metal work and painting etc. Plus they then had to buy the new train from La Via Volta at WalibiWorld.

I'm more excited about this:
"A £150,000 upgrade is planned to the Enigma roller coaster ride"

An end to the days of a single train? A new theme/enclosure?!

Times are looking good!

Well let's hope that they can find a used coaster in good nick and manage to get it in for next year as well!

They didn't actually have to buy it as CdA owns Wabili World too. From what I remember, the total cost for the Wipeout profject was £1.5m.

But we still cant really use that as a bench mark as we dont know what esle they have planned, and how much the Drop Tower is costing (if we get it). Also Enigma's £150,000 needs to be deducted too.

Yes I would love to see a coaster on the lines of Anubis at Plopsaland (Gerstlauer Launch), but that budget isn't going to buy that. However that doesn't mean we're just going to get something rubbish.

I'm going to put my neck on the line and (hope) guess its going to be a Star Flyer on the old CINE180 site.

Interesting idea there Martyn. That would be a nice edition, are there any others in the UK?

Whilst it would be a nice addition - and would almost certainly be allowed now that the drop tower has been, I still think they should be aiming for another permanent thrill ride... or a water ride like rapids. We've all discussed how good rapids could be - and a quality park model of a thrill ride (once themed) could be great too.

I would still love to see a new coaster in all honesty though.

I would love a rapids ride at PWH but the ones that I would like to see would cost a lot more than the budgets that we have been told so I can assume that is out of the question. It will be great to see what they have in mind. I am hoping another coaster.

I too would love another coaster, but in all honestly, I think 3 coasters for a park Pleasurewood's size is alright, and will do for the time being. I've always said that the priority would be to fill up the empty spaces, and sort out some of the rides. The Drop Tower, this, and Enigma's upgrade is just perfect for what the park needs (if Enigma's revamp is doen properly, it could well be made into a great coaster, which in effect, would be as good as a new ride really)
.
They've said a few times now about "2 mega rides", and the need for more stuff to be aimed at the 13-22 age group, so with that in mind, I'd imagine its going to be another thrill ride.

Like I said, I'd love another coaster, but on that budget, it is going to be a travelling coaster. There's only a select few travelling coasters I'd be happy with really, and the majority of them are the Schwarzkopf loopers... and there's one sitting dormant up at Loudoun Castle....

The emphasis on the "mega" makes me think that, as Martyn said, it will be something catered for the thrill seeker market. On the budget they are using, they can still get some good stuff.

Exciting times for the park all round then. Surely 2012 is going to be a fondly remembered year if all goes well....?

This budget of just £2.4m really doesn't make things easy!lol Though I would imagine that this new ride would have a budget of roughly the £1m mark. So with that in mind, here's a comparisons:

Brand new Topscan £1m
Magic Mouse coaster £500,000

Obviously I do not want to see another Magic Mouse, but it goes to show that a budget of £1m can still get you a new coaster. Rage, as a brand new coaster cost £3m, so a second hand coaster on a similar scale is possible too.

A thought (and bare with me on this one):

How about a park-sized Giant Disko? Fits in with both family and thrill and I think Chessington and Flamingo Land have one - showing that they work in parks bigger than ours. If themed like a whirlpool or something it could be pretty good? Idk...

Hmm.. I guess it would be good for the park, but I personally HATE them. SO boring, and becoming very common.

In saying that, I am to go on the 'coaster' Disk'O, like Chessingtons and Paultons. However, remember, this has been labelled a 'mega' ride, so I'm expecting mega thrills, not mild yawns.

I see your point, but it would be a big family thrill ride... And wee have to remember that right now we shouldn't worry about PWH trying to be different from other parks, we should worry about them getting up to scratch with the rest of the UK first!

I wouldn't be keen on a disk, Chessington's example would be nice but I doubt we'll get something as good as that, and the rude is still pretty tame and not what I would call a "mega ride". I've said this before but I think an Intamin Half-Pipe would fit well at the park, and they do look rather impressive.

Actually I'd forgotten those existed... they are rather cool. Disneyland Paris has one in their Toy Story land.

Could be surfboard themed?

^ They do come stanard with a surf board or skater theme...

I rode one of these for the first time in January, at DLP, but obviously that one's different as it doesn't spin, and is much bigger than the stand models. It was good, and I was surprised at just how powerful the LSM's were, but I would imagine the spinning models would offer a very similar ride experiene to Fireball. But still, I wouldn't say no!

Well a surfboard as standard would fit perfectly within the park. They might choose a non-spinning model to keep it family thrill though?

Of course, getting one is highly unlikely.

What we have to remember is that the PWH idea of a "mega ride" and our idea of a "mega ride" could be too very different things!

Remember they could be hyping it up in order to get more publicity. I wouldn't get my hopes up about how mega this second ride is going to be, and I don't see a problem with the Disko ride. It caters for both thrill seekers and families.

Normally I would agree, but at the moment, their idea of 'mega ride' is the tallest and fastest drop tower in the UK, so, with that in mind, I think its a safe bet to expect something thrilling.

Absoutley- it's amazing that we have got something so fantastic for the park. However, just because this one development is huge doesn't mean that the other one is going to be just as good. I think because the drop tower ride is something so spectacular, we are going to have this as the "benchmark" for all other future developments.

Yeah I agree, I doubt this other will be as good as the drop tower, but thats only because drop towers are one of the best thrill rides in the world.

I dont know why, but my gut feeling is telling me its going to be a Topscan. But in a perfect world, it would be the Twist 'n' Shout from Loundoun Castle... god, please, I actually beg you.... Schwartzkopf looper OM-actual-G!

Provided a topscan was themed okay and didn't look like it was found at the Pleasure Beach... A Top Spin would be pretty cool to have too...

But yes, that coaster would rather win.

I'm planning on doing the major parks in Holland over the next year or so, and I'm actually going to go out of my way to go to this little park called "Attractiepark Slagharen", purely because they have THIS bad boy. The speed that thing travels is unreal, and its so intense for such an old, basic looper.

Did you ever ride Magnum Force at Flamingoland? Huge first drop, 3 loops and cracking speed throughout - also very intense. One of my fave rides ever.
