RE: The Jolly Roger drop tower

I've come to the conclusion that I would rather the park kept an eye out for a much taller tower, than keep, and theme the one we have now.

Want to know what made my mind up? Go look at the first few pages of this thread, and you'll see.

OK this is PROBABLY just normal maintaince/winter storage but on my travels today the JR was not visable from either the Coast Rd, the A12 or on the road up to Tescos.

Like I say its almost certainly just stored down for Winter but thats my observations from today.

Well if they own it it would make sense to have it in the travelling sector over the winter; or they could be permanently installing it! Mmmm :?

It's probably just routine maintenance. But yeah, it could be anything really.

Maybe the delivery the other day was a delicious 60m Intamin drop tower?

I tell you what though I was more scared on JR than I was on Hurakan Kondor. Intamins are nice but because they are up and down with virtually no suspense at the top they really aren't as terrifying. I am of course only basing that on HK which literally waited for a couple of seconds before releasing you. I don't know if other Intamins have a better ride program?

Only been on Apocalypse and the one at Parque d'atracciones, they didn't hold you up there for long, but I remember I positively crap myself everytime I go on the floorless side of Apocalypse.

IMO, on Jolly, you are held up there for too long. You start getting bored, and eventually you loose the suspense. Yes it takes you by surprise, but there's nothing worse than bricking it, waiting, then BOOM.

IMHO rides like this are too much of a gimmick.

They need decent theming to help create more suspense - think about oblivion at Alton Towers . Excellent theming throughout and really its just one drop - less than a minute from start to finish.

How can a drop tower be a gimmick? By saying that, every ride is a gimmick!

Not really - its a one trick pony but thats just my opinion.

Rita is so short that the only redeeming feature about it is the launch.

Oblivion - the drop!

Now other rides are still short but hold up much better. Velocity at Flamingoland - Megaphobia at Oakwood - nemisis.

They are are great but for the Jolly Roger to be anything special it needs to look like it fits!

You've compared a drop tower flat ride to a bunch of coasters...

A flat ride is designed to do totally different things to coasters.

Never seen cables like that before... maybe they're for stability whilst it's not in use?

A 'jolly' (excuse this awful attempt at humour) good question! I hope there is something planned for it. It is a great ride spoiled by that fact it looks like it belongs up the road at GYPB. I'm not mocking GYPB but they thrive on themeless fairground rides whereas I'd like PWH to be seen as a premier theme park experience.

I would hope that now it is being kept - it will have some cosmetic work. It's a bloody good ride and really thrilling too so it'd be good to see it altered. However, I'd take further investment on new attractions and refurbishments of current attractions over cosmetic work on Jolly right now.

Some great plans on park guys - more cosmetic than any new ride plans for 2014. Probably be a great year to get some of the things you're mentioning sorted. (PS: That is NOT conformation that NO new attractions will arrive for 2014 ;) )

That's great, there's probs plenty to things to keep them busy and costs in just doing that over the winter.
With Jolly and Enigma being the main ones maybe. We were told Woody's flying school will most likely be moved to the kids aria.

Other than the Snake I can't think of anything else that is in need if a serious sorting out. Not a lot of point doing Fireball if it will be moved at some point.

In interesting to see how things develop, and what new attractions are introduced.
Hopefully Tide Traveller is fully restored.
