RE: Planning application sent in for a 60m DROP TOWER!

No unfortunately not. You may be thinking of the Intamin Gyro Drop which does turn as it ascends the shaft.

Been doing some homework. Check THIS from Tivoli World's website, it confirms that their tower is the same as the one we will hopefully be getting.

So I searched the name on Youtube;

When I watched the first video I thought "that doesn't look that high", then on the second video with the POV you can really see how high it is.  That will give an absolutely awesome views over PWH!

Yeah, its ridiculous to think this is like double the height of Mega Drop, yet that gave some awsome views!

at 60m it will be 5m higher than Cliffhanger at Flamingoland (Which is the park they said they wanted to be similar to) and 6m higher than Drayton Manors Apocalypse. So it will be the tallest but because the drop is 10M less than the hight it will be quite similar to those two.

Alex, where did you get that Cliffhanger is 55m tall?

180ft = ~55m

Leon, read the documents on the planning stuff, it will ease your mind... they really have done their homework with it.

If you look under the 'important dates' area of the planning application, you'll see that letters were sent out to the local residents on the 24/5...... they have until 14/6 to moan to their hearts content!

So if this gets approved do you guys reckon it will be installed this season or for a new addition in 2012? I would imagine it would be quite a quick installation so I would think this Summer.

i think it would be a bit late for this summer the outcome wont be known until early July, so it seems to short to have it ready for the summer.

I would imagine it would open next year, or at a push, maybe for the halloween event?

Yes Martyn, very interesting read. Went through it all the other night.

I'm also wondering if they're planning an installation end of season wise - to hit the full season August market - In a similar way that they planned Wipeout to be ready in the August of 2007.

Either way this is massively exciting news which could mean very positive growth for the park's gate figures!

Naturally this is a great news, and it is FANTASTIC to see the new owners take this route, rather than the travelling ride route, but this ain't going to cure everything.

I still think they need to get hold of a few small rides to fill the park up, then they can go around replacing them with the big permanent stuff.

I agree with you Martyn but it's a great start and if this is how PWH mean to go on then I believe the park can return to its former glory. I would really love to know annual gate numbers for the past ten or fifteen years and just see what the trend is like.

Yes that would be interesting. no doubt a steady decline until Wipeout arrived!

Does anyone have any information about where they are getting the new ride from? Second Hand is obvious i suppose.

Has anyone approached PWH via! Facebook about this new ride yet? I suppose they are keeping it well under their hat until they know for sure

No, I don't think it would be a good idea to approach PWH about this as they haven't officially announced it and we only know about it from finding their planning application. Once they announce it then I'm sure they'll be more than happy to answer questions about it.

Matt did suggest on the other page that we dont hassle them over this, he is right to be honest. Maybe if and when the application gets approved, someone could message them privately on FB...?

Agreed.

Coasterforce have announced the application on their website.

Yeah they have. Martyn posted the news up on their forum. Coasterforce tweeted the news story and tagged @pwhills in their tweet. It was promptly removed so PWH obviously don't want to confirm this yet.

So far there are two public letters on WDC pages. One sais yes to the tower, one is a rather scary no way please......  I think PWH will struggle to get this pushed through

I dont think one objection letter is going to hurt it to be honest. Though where did they get that info of '120db when it was tested at another park' - did I miss that in one of the many letters for the application?

And lol at that letter really, they still refer to the park as 'Pleasurewood Hills American Theme Park'...(also, I recognise that address from the Wipeout condition amendment...bloody NIMBY's)

Oh, and welcome to the forum coolskin!

 Thank you very much !!!

I live very close to the park and have a huge attachment to it, use to work there too.

We really need to get this ride in guys !!!  Ok so it is only one letter so far that is not very nice to read, yet I am with you on there noise quotes - what do they mean ??!!  You say they refer to it as American, so do WDC on their planning page.....

Well I guess that its either something I have missed when looking through the application documents, or they've made it up themselves. 120db is pretty loud really...

I have just went through it again, there seems to be a highest score ofover 100db yet this seems to be at tests carried out at a 15minute interval. It is a bit confusing to understand really. Especially when you see to start with it shows figures around 40db or something like that.

Can anyone else break all this noise level stuff down and make it easy ? lol !!

Apparently my dishwasher is 52dB. And that is hardly audible to be honest.

The case that Mr Knight puts forward regarding shift workers is a moot point to be honest. One, he states that there are shift workers, not how many and not the proportion to non-shift workers. Anyone who is a shift worker and trying to sleep during the day will be doing so indoors and so the noise will be significantly reduced anyhow and Mr Knight doesn't offer significant proof of this.

I don't believe this letter of opposition should be of any concern. The park have already operated a drop tower in the past in the exact same spot so that should work in their favour. You have to think about the importance of a business like PWH to the local economy, tourism and to the local council and by rejecting this proposition will be hindering PWH from making any progress and quite possibly be damaging towards future revenues.

I think they have proven that noise levels wont be an issue, so I'd imagine the only problem with this application will be with the visual impact.

Lik Josh said, I really dont think Mr Knight's letter is one to be concerned with, he sounds like someone who is complaining for the sake of it.
