RE: The Official Wipeout thread

Hey Guys,

I was thrilled to hear WFM got to air across the park (i.e Wipeout). Very loud and clear.

Make sure you don't miss it. I was a bit proud (blowing my own trumpet :) )

It was nice to bump into hobo at the park too!

Just stumbled across a photo from when Wipeout's lift hill chain snapped in 2010:

So it turns out that Wipeout is a UK first:

First coaster to use GTL Helical screwpiles.

They were probably messing around, as it came from The American Adventure theme park...

Probably sounds a little more impressive if they were using it to impress potential clients.

I have never been on this before.
Is it as good as people say? Due to the amount of problems the ride has I've often wounded if it was a mistake to purchase.

It's a boomerang and thus is a pretty standard experience in terms of coaster riding, but it is quite a smooth ride and packs some surprising force too! There have been no end f problems with the train, but the ride itself has been pretty reliable for a decades old Vekoma!

It was a brilliant purchase by the park, I'd hate to imagine what the place would be like without it... Or if it would even exist at all to be honest.

I actually disagree with you there Scott, IMO Boomerang's are far from a standard coaster experience!

They're the only coasters that can make me feel quite nauseaus, and they're incredibly forceful, 5.2g's is very high for a coaster - especially when travelling backwards!

I'm just SO gutted I got spited by the GIB at Parque Warner last year, I'd imagine that experience is just incredible!

Sorry, when I said standard I didn't mean as in it lacks force or fun - but that it's standard in terms of its layout and experience because of the large number of Boomerang's all over the world :)

Wipeout is starting to look a bit tired I noticed today. The trains were running with 4 seats out of action and the train itself is looking quite dirty and old with the restraints very dirty and deterioration on the handles on the back of the seats.

There seems to be a new rope which is nice and white but the theming is dirty and there are weeds growing through. plus no ride merchandise anymore sad

Still a bloody good ride though, one of my favourites!

Trains might get a re-sprayed this winter. Keep on top of it.
It's about 6 years old now?

The two seats second from back were tied down and two others half way up when I went on at 16:30.

The train is actually 13 years old, as it was originally on the La Via Volta coaster at Walibi World, which opened in 2000.

Thing is, whilst it is looking a little tired, it still looks great.

Yeah, I agree it does still look great as a whole and the photo building is great. It's just a bit rough around the edges now. Those surf board shapes signs are all dirty and the station is going the same route and they are storing oil cans on the platform like down at Enigma which is an eye sore. The train is the worst bit though.

Yeah maybe I'm being too critical, the restraints are filthy, look at my orp in the tournament thread to see. I suppose it all just needs a bit of a clean. I would like to see automatic restraint release and loading bays added, throughput would increase but am I right in thinking that they still have restrictions on how many times it can run in a day/hour?
