CLEETHORPES' Pleasure Island Theme Park could reopen following its shock closure yesterday.
As reported on www.thisisgrimsby.co.uk, yesterday morning staff were told that their employment with the seaside attraction had been terminated and park visitors were greeted with locked gates and a sign saying that the park was closed.
However, the Grimsby Telegraph has learned that the closure may only be temporary while a takeover of the park is negotiated.
The Grimsby Telegraph understands that the present managing director, Melanie Wood, is currently in discussions to take over the park, breaking away from Flamingo Land – the major North Yorkshire theme park owned by her brother Gordon Gibb.
However, discussions between the two parties had stalled on a number of issues, leading to yesterday's closure.
Mrs Wood said: "Pending further successful negotiations between the two parties, the park should open again shortly."
Yesterday's shock closure rocked the resort with local businesses, staff and visitors alike expressing their fears for the resort's future if the attraction was to close permanently.
Its good news really (despite the good rides not being for sale now!)
A quick browse of RCDB shows no Spinning coaster at the park ever! You maybe thinking of Ligh****er Valley? http://rcdb.com/1314.htm?p=2779
Here's a little fact of the day for ya, this park (Pleasure Island) was actually built by the owners of Pleasurewood back in 1992, but they went bankrubt, sold Pleasurewood, and sold the Pleasure Island project to Flamingoland PLC.
Would be great to see it at Pleasurewood, I hope the new manager gets some thrilling flats, I really can't be bothered to visit pleasurewood this year if there is nothing new AGAIN!
Construction on Pleasure Island started in the 1980s by the R.K.F. Group P.L.C., who owned Pleasurewood Hills. The R.K.F. Group went into receivership (a type of bankruptcy) and construction ended. The unfinished park was purchased by Flamingo Land P.L.C. and finally opened in 1993.
Not really... look at where Flamingoland is now compared with maybe 10 or 15 years ago... Could the same thing have happened at PWH with them in charge?
Well you just need to look at how Pleasure Island is. All they ever did was palm off the old rubbish from Flamingoland to Pleasure Island. There's been no real major investment since the park opened in 1993. So with that in mind, I'm happy that Flamingoland PLC doesn't own Pleasurewood.
Whilst I can see what you're saying (and I can't really pass comment having only visited there when I was a child), by looking at the stack of rides and attractions the place has - wouldn't you rather have a park filled with rides and attractions than what we have now?
I know recently we've seen a major improvement in infrastructure through theming and re-painting etc, but that's only happened in the last few years - in the long-term past, had PWH been owned by Flamingoland, there might be a few more 'big' rides for us to moan about now ;)
If you look at Flamingland and the amount of investment in new rides it has had over the past few years then I can see our argument as the place has a great line up for a small park. I can also see Martyn's point of view because if you look at Pleasure Island it is in a pretty poor state at the moment and PWH looks much better to me.
