As the region's tourist attractions prepare for the first influx of visitors for 2010, a new face is getting ready to take control at Pleasurewood Hills theme park.
Alexis Camelin, the new general manager at the theme park between great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, has spent the past month on site making sure that the attraction is ready to open for visitors on Friday.
Mr Camelin is originally from Grenoble in France and has worked in the leisure and hospitality industry in the UK for the past 15 years.
He said: “I am very excited to be here and to have the opportunity to do so much. All of our rides have been taken apart over the winter to be checked and repaired where needed.
“The aim for my first season in charge is to improve the overall experience for our visitors. We only have one shot to impress so it's important that people leave with good memories.”
Mr Camelin, who has just moved to the area with his wife and children, added: “I think coming in with a new pair of eyes has been really good for the park.
“I've noticed new things which I think need doing, and my main aim for this season will be tidying everything up and going through the park from one corner to another with a team of painters giving everything a new lick of paint.”

Great news!! As he rightly puts it a fresh pair of eyes is what is needed. This could explain the new tunnel on the lift hill and maybe some other improvements we are yet to see.
And yes hopefully Mr Camelin will be good for some new attractions!
This is good news. But I wonder what happened to the other fella? (I forget his name now). I hope he wasn't sacked by CdA for not doing much for the park :( And I wonder if he came from another park? (Walibi World?? That would be good :))

That is actually quite worrying when you consider the IN YOUR FACE yellow/red/green/blue paint Pleasurewood has. It would be nice for things to be painted with suttle colours to blend in with the nice scenery.
Still, this is fab news! Lets hope he's theme park nut!
Also saw this in The Journal this morning; it really is great news. Yves Delhommeau was the previous manager - I believe he came from one of CdA's other parks. No idea where he has gone though. Perhaps they thought his tenure was up?
Im slightly confused- does this mean all this painting work has already been done? Or will it be done during the season?
Still it's good to see this man is determined and it looks like he wants to make changes. It is very encouraging to see that he is starting in the worst corner of the park ( SING area). Also, at least this confirms changes for the park and continued investment which is always good news.
He says that you only get one shot to impress- I believe this means they will be adding some new rides soon...
I would be surprised if they had sacked the old manager, but maybe they feel that they need to bring somebody new in with some big ideas for the park- that would be good!
I look forward to seeing what changes he has made already! Wonder if the new lifthill has had some themeing on it yet- datman do you know anything?
It sounds like they have a lot of work to do. But why didn't they do it in november so by the time easter comes everything is ready?
well if im reading right

looks like Alexis Camelin has only been about for the last few months, so if these are all ideas that Alexis has brought with him then thats why they was not implemented during the winter months :)
I'm going to agree with datmans opinion and if that is correct it'll mean a slow first season just neatening up but it's still good but then fom then onwards new things, exciting rides and hopefully a while new rollercoaster but we won't know unless any one know other parks that have benifitted from him (or haven't) and how they have been changed by him or we wait another season...or longer

The irony is, that is EXACTLY what CdA done in their first season in charge in 2005 (done a good job of it too), so really they shouldn'y actually have to do that again!?
Alex is 'apparently' applying for funding for a roof over the le mans track so it can stay open when it rains.. do you think this would be a good thing?

There is much more than needs to be done at Pleasurewood Hills than getting a new roof, but I do think that it is probably a godo idea. Yes.
I think its good too seem them commited to keeping attractions open all the while, but I think a roof over the track will completely ruin the experience.
It would also create bad air space around the track as the fumes wont be escaping so quick.
I'd like to see them improve the main building for the ride, its so bare and ugly. Could do with some TLC.
I think the roof is a good idea. From a business point of view it makes perfect sense to be able to keep a pay2play attraction open if it rains. As long as we also see a new ride next season I'll be happy - I don't want to see "New for 2011 - Roof" :)
I glad too see some sort of continued investment in the attractions, but I hope that along with this new roof we seem a new ride and maybe a revamp come our way. Pleasurewood Hills does need something new, and to be honest the new manager commented how much space there was at the park, so I doubt it will be a long break.
I hope they make it look nice though this new roof, and hopefully give it a name change.
Yeah it makes business sense to have the roof, but then it would also make business sense to remove say Enigma and replace with a Pay per ride attraction.
I cant believe how many of you agree about the roof!lol It would ruin the look of the area and ruin the racing experience too.
And thats the exact reason why I suggested it. It would bring a wider audience in, it would attract the people that would normally go to Pettitts, if you get what I mean.
I would much rather seem a Farmyard area than a Nature Trail.
havent been on in a long time so only just getting back to this but the go kart track needs ALOT of work done to it... having a roof over the track will bring in alot more money, you think how many days are lost because of rain... having the go karts open in the rain will bring less complaints and more money? so why isnt a good thing? i mean on a bad day on the karts they bring in about a grand? on a good day? nearly 2 grand? so you lose 20 days of the season through rain that could be 20 grand on the go karts PWH need the money and i think this is the way to do it?
i agree martyn, the go karts are my favourite ride, but a roof would ruin the experience as what is so good about the go karts are the fact that they are outdoors
You may think this is harsh, but I dont think this Alexis really knows about, or has much experience with running a theme park. I'm really not happy with the direction the park is going with him in charge;
Wacky idea about a roof over the Go-Karts - whilst its good business sense, its still a bit wacky and definitely the "moneymoneymoney" atittude.
SNIG's tunnel has been destroyed, and left looking stupid.
Going round painting things in crazy colours. The Large train is a good example of this.
Nature Trail as a new attraction...
Some Laser thing as a new attraction...
All of these are very strange moves that I'm not entirely happy with. There you go, I've said it! **hides under table**
