The 240ft S&S Sling Shot "Absolutely Insane" closed in September 2007 and never re-opened due to many technical problems. The park has now given up all hope and have removed the ride, its rumoured to have been scrapped.

We dont often get 'news' for Fantasy Island, so when we do, we might as well make the most of it!
It seems like they may finally be giving the whole 'amusment park' idea a bit of a push. Nothing new ride wise, but for 2014 we have;
- New Burger King restaraunt - New Subway outlet - New Park Logo - Major refurb for the Volcano (S&S Space Shot) - And what looks like a major refurb for the Odyssey's train! (it's been at Vekoma HQ in Holland for a couple of months now)
New logo:
Volcano's old generic look:

And now the scaffolding has come down, to reveal this:
here in July, as you say nothing new for 10 years but i still get the same buzz year on year, which i dont really get from any other park and i just can't put my finger on why :s Odyssey though is defo worth the 3 1/2 hour drive :)
Hi guys so as you probably know FI was recently purchased by mellors group and we already have G-force back, only giant booster in the world I believe, and my god is it huge! Makes amazing confusion in the distance look like its a toy when walking along the beach! Apparently not yet running at full speed due to power supply issues? Unsure of accuracy, but that thing shifts, nice heavy drone from the motor , they've shuffled some rides around to accommodate, with the freshly panted mouse now in the car park!doesn't look as bad as it sounds! and I think its a good start.
Millenium has had its entrance moved into the pyramid, and odyssey has had its loading platform enclosed which looks better, the repaint also looks spot on, millenium is looking tired now though in comparison.
Lots more wristband kiosks around too.
I think its now clear a bit of theming is required throughout the park but a good sign of the beginning of mellors 10yr investment plan!
Visited again today, everything open except kids soft play, park wasn't too busy died off after about 4pm but was open til 6, £18 per wrist band, cant believe people moan about this with the size of the rides that are there, when you throw in the price of Yarmouth pleasure beach for example!
Anyway got on everything except amazing confusion, only because personally I'm not keen! G force is some
creature! Jiggles a bit side to side which isn't so nice though! Also a shame some paint is already flaking and slight rust even though its only just been put up! All 4 gondolas in use, the verkomas were only running half capacity with weights in the centre cars of both no idea why, mouse still looking nice and clean, as was the whole park, bit of themeing over winter where things have been moved around would be good, as there is now car park spaces marked on the tarmac around beast (good long go on that today)
On the whole had a bloody good day there, weather was lush too!

Does fantasy island own the market area? If they do I wonder what the chances are of it being ditched all together. More ride space has got to be infinitely better then an old bloke with a gap in his front teeth trying to sell you a fake Rolex.......
yea its all owned by them, in recent years the income from the market has been propping the theme park side of things up financially, its not going all together but is having a bit of a restructure i believe, and a large chuck has been cleared to make space for more rides already, theres a fbook page called fantasy islanders which gets pictures and updates almost daily
Ok, thanks. Surely there would be more of a benefit in terms of income from them using the market and arcade space for more rides.
Anyway, good to hear that they're going to be gutting the pyramid a bit. As much as there are some good rides in there, I've always thought it was a bit dull and bland. if they keep it as a sort of winter mini attraction then it'll bring them some income as well.
