RE: Pleasurewood Future

Hey! No need to be like that!

I say the only coasters will ever see at Pleasurewood will be relocated ones from CdA's other parks.

When i email PH regarding the website etc I did slip in the question about plans for 2010. It wasn't an exciting reply:

"2010 depends on numbers seen throughout this season."

Well let's hope they have a good season!

I really would like to see a new rollercoaster built at PH or a family water ride like the rapids or something.  I think it's really great that the park are cleaning up a lot of their older rides and re-working the image of the park.

Even something like a Eurofighter installed will be a big boost for the park.  The great thing about them is the unique lift hill and for people to be able to directly compare that element to Saw: The Ride at Thorpe would probably mean a lot of people would come to the park to try it out!

After riding Saw: The Ride last week I can also say that it is the quietest rollercoaster I have ever been on.  It was barely audible, which is a big plus for a park like Pleasurewood.

To be honest, thats not a very promising response.

How can they rely on guest numbers, when they dont do anything to bring the guests back? You need to add the new attractions to get the guests coming in. You cant just sit on your arse doing nothing and expecting everything in return!

Going, by what he's said, we'll never see a new ride at Pleasurewood :(

Edit: Right, I'm contradicting my self big time here, but anyway, here goes.

You never know, they may well be getting a new ride for next year, but depeding on how may guests visit the park this year, will depend on the 'size' of the 2010 developements, if you get what I mean?

I think if you'd asked "Will you be getting any new attractions for next year"- you'd get more a straight answer, if that makes sense.

I emailed Terry Nunn again regarding any future developments that the park have in mind.  He kindly emailed back with this reply:

Hi

We do have a 5 and a 10 year plan but how closely we stick to this depends on the number of visitors that come through the gate.

What we do not have at Pleasurewood Hills is a family ride that can take all members of the family not being dependant on age, size or height of the occupants.  So I think we would look towards something like that.

I don’t think that lets any cats out of the bag!!!!

Regards

Now what type of ride does he mean?  Maybe a rapids ride as we know that these are great for all members of the family.  That's all I can think of really - I guess though we'll have to wait and see!

So they want a ride with no height restriction? Wow, bet that'll be fun!

I dont understand why parks have to be so secret about future rides. Whats going to happen if they us what they're getting for next year? Its not like anyone will die if they us!

Nice of him to reply again though.

Im betting on a rapids ride. Then you have the opportunity to build a coaster over it like many other parks have done. I think fencing will be put up around the park just to give it a better sense of division between areas. Flamingoland these days, is looking quite good and all they have done is taken a park that was still in the 80's and brought up to speed with whats required in the present day.

I hope a 5 and 10 year plan doesn't mean a ride after 5 years and then another after 10, lol.
I think that we might even see a knew entrance in the near future. Definitely needs updating. PH needs something more invitingm, especially when you get in the park and see this tatty carousel standing in front of you. This could maybe be moved and replaced with a fountain or something with Woody on it. Something with impact telling the public that they are in for wonderful day of fun and stuff. I must admit when I went not too long ago, I didn't feel excited when I stepped inside the park, I don't know about anyone else.

I totally agree, my plans would be:

New Entrance Area, relocate Carousel
Replacement for Thunderstruck
Enigma new trains and brakes from subcontracter
Rapids Ride
2 New Thrilling Flat Ride
New Coaster

something like that for the next 5 years anyway

no that cost £250,000 when it was new! I think it was the only one made as well 'two-tier carousel', or something. Whilst I agree that in recent years neglect has taken it's toll, I think it is something the park need. If they are shaping towards the family end of the market (which I hope they're not!) then the immediacy that the carousel gives is welcoming. I do think, though, that a new entrance is much needed, with turnstiles that allow easier throughput. Tickets could be intergrated, removing the frustration of the 'hand stamp' or those 'wrist strap' things they have now.

I agree with Jools' plan, with a few relocations sorted out and then proper 'zoned' theming. Maybe a new chairlift system that goes further around the park, rather than the 'relay' that's in operation at the moment.

That's my twopence, anyway.

Yes the two tier carousel is/was one of only 3 in the world when they bought it.

I dont think its the Carousel itself that is tacky, its the way its just 'plonked' where it is. If it was on a rasied bit of ground, say with water features and flowers around it, it would look much better.

Due to the hot weather we've been having, hopefully Pleasurewoods attendance figures should be on the rise, and now is about the time they should be thinking of what the new ride for next year (if there is going to be one) will be, and hopefully the attendance will help towards the new ride, I would be happy if they built the rapids or a new coaster or thrilling flat, anything else I would probably be quite disapointed unless it's something suprising or unique.

I'm beginning to think that the owners of PH are not going to add a coaster unless its a relocated one, so I have been checking around on the net. I came across The Ozark Wildcat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5dg7CZs5KQ This ride only ran for 5 years before the park, Celebration City, closed. It only cost $4,000,000 to build. What a waste of a coaster. I wonder how much it would cost to relocate to PH. I know I'm probably dreaming but this would be such a good investment for a park like Pleasurewood. This would be perfect i'm telling you, perfect!!!! Feel free to gun me down Martyn. Lol

does the The Ozark Wildcat look a bit archaic though? Maybe PWH needs a modern looking ride

What if the entrance led straight onto main street?

^ The park doesn't have the layout for that, the Main Street area is almost in the middle of the park, so it wouldn't work.
