It just baffles me. When news first broke of a new ride, I would never have put money on a replacement for Hobs Pit. My money would have been on a new flat or kiddy coaster to replace the redundant Rattlesnake. That makes perfect sense to me.
Do this RTTT by all means, but why now? Why not this winter? The new ride for this summer should have been some sort of flat ride or small coaster.
They've given themselves a 3 week turnaround for this, do ya'll really think that's long enough for this be decent?
It would look good in a mine setting for sure! UV is used to much better use in more rides other than just ghost trains. Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Tomb Blaster and Tinkaboo's Sweet Adventure are perfect examples of using UV in a non scary way. Remember that the park is for a young audience. An indoor family friendly ride is what's needed at the park after Fairytale Fantasy and TOTC were removed.
if it's a shooter (still dunno what that really is) how long will be be before they run out of things to shoot or to shoot at or the whole thing just looks a real mess. We know The Hills is not very good when it comes to keeping on top of things.
To be honest it sounds like a lot of fun, but i just don't like ow it's been shoe horned in at the last minute, They certainly could have kept Hobs for one last season, advertise it as one last season and then make a really cool new ride for next year.
But there last shooter ride Laser labyrinth turned out to be a flop... couldn't they have done this under the castle instead?

Yeah, not great. At all. It's actually worse, how's that even possible?!
Merlin have started to use some really poor lighting, it can also be found in Duel, the scene where the flying heads scream as they move over you... the UV lights just light up the whole room, and you can see everything. Same issue with Tomb Blaster, plus the new lasers have dots the size of a 14" pizza.
Merlin don't understand lighting. They've replaced most of their dark ride lighting with LEDs to be more energy efficient. The trouble with that is, like you've said Martyn, it lights up whole areas and reveals stuff you shouldn't be able to see.
You really don't know what a shooting ride is Bubbles? Look up Duel at Alton Towers or Buzz Lightyear at any of the Disney parks as just two of many many examples.
No never seen one before, i goggled it. I found Drayton Manor Park as a Wild West Shoot Out.. i guess this will be very similar to that?
Probs be a fun attraction for the year, and passable during 2018, Â by 2019 all the bits will stop working, the lasers wont work and it'll just be a little car ride... Â going by the parks history, after all nothing the park has done suggest otherwise and the future can sways be predicted by the past. Â i doubt they've changed attitudes or learnt lessens. Â but maybe this goes for all theme parks?
I'm surprised they went for a wild west theme (considering Drayton has one) and as Hobs was a 'ghost train'  why didn't they have a Ghost theme?  (plus Lasers in the wild  west.. seriously?)   Ghost Blasters, Busters, Zappers, Hunters would have been better,  They could have even called it Hob's Pit : Shooting Gallery or something.   They really lack imagination.Â

Hobs Pit was set in a mine though... hence the mine theme. It was somewhat of a ghost train but it's actual theme was of a Wild West type mine... so the theme makes perfect sense.
A ghost theme would have been just as unoriginal. See Duel at towers for the competition there...
The names not great but 'Hobs Pit: Shooting Gallery' would have been far less imaginative 😂.
yeah, as i say they can't do worse than that monstrosity. But to overall hobs to a high standard in such a short space of time has me worried. Plus in usual hills style all the effects will be broken after 3 weeks use.
Sorry chaps, i just can't get positive with this. it's such a dumb idea when the time and money could have been invested into Hobs.

I think that myself sometimes... Running a theme park is obviously much, much harder than it would seem to be on the surface of things but still, would most of us have brought hyperdrive or turned hobs pit into a shooter ride?
It's not just PWH though, look at merlin. A ride themed to I'm a bloody celebrity and an intamin looper that's at least 5 years overdue for a repaint. And then there's DBGT which I didn't get on at all last year after 5 visits. Oh, and Chessington with dragon falls, and alton with bugger all in regards to flat rides anymore. And merlin's collective 1 train ops that turn 5 minute queues into 20-30 minute ones. I am in no way saying that I could do a better job but sometimes decisions seem so stupid that people will think that and can you really blame them?
PWH Â "Its gonna be something better than what was there before and for the whole family!"
Well for a start i doubt a ride they have cobbled together in a few weeks is going to be better then the ride they spent time on money on when Hobs opened. Â Secondly they let Hobs rot so you can pretty much say anything is better. Â and it wont be long before this suffers the same fate.Â

Yeah a lot of the theming elements could have been made offsite, and it's just a case of installing them. Obviously a lot of Hobs theming is staying in there too.
I like the look of the images there posting on Facebook, it very much has a ghost train feel to it.
As long as they look after it it might be quite good, but they don't. I can see two years down the line they'll remove the laser guns and just have a ride around thing.. because that's what happens at PLW.
Anyway, gotta be positive. The park needs a second dark ride.... if they pull down rattle snake maybe they could add a new boat ride?

Photos on Facebook look neat, only thing that worries me is that all these pics show 2d paints on flat board, as opposed to actual 3d theming that Hobs Pit's had.
Looks though, and I hope it has moving animatronics, not just paintings.
If things didn't move what would be the point in shooting them? but then they'll soon break down and it'll have no moving parts lol although i agree those pictures do look good.
I do hope there's some high quality on ride footage of Hobs, other wise it'll become a faint memory like the Haunted Castle, Â we'll know what it was bit forget what it was like inside. Â

I doubt there is much on ride footage of it because I remember them being fairly strict with cameras on it. There doesn't appear to be any on youtube anyway.
can we imagine it's a prequel.. Sam Hobs eventually when insane, made a pack with the Devil and when on a killing spree.. this kiddie ride just got a whole lot darker.. lol
It's a real shame they didn't think to turn TOTC in to something like this and kept Hobs.. Â they'll have to decent dark rides if they bother to look after them, and two attraction that add variety to the place. Â The Waveswinger could have gone somewhere else in the park.
It's such a shame things have turned out this way.
