the final weekend of 2013

Was a very quiet day on park I was quite surprised. Tales of the coast gave us a few frightening bits.... Horror express was very good and a great idea....hobs pit live was excellent man did I swear.... A few changes to Sean's show on the screens but it was good. Satans maze was truly incredible....well done and a absolutely brilliant attraction.

Second go on hobs pit live was very poor.

A shame to see all the rides just SBNO after 4. Shops and some food outlets open as I write this at 5.11pm. had a second go on horror express and after a very long wait it was good again.

A chilly day on park. I really hope that tomorrow is busier and it will take a lot to keep folk entertained from 4-6 if it is quiet again.

would love to see the footage of us in satans as they were filming all over. ben is this something that may appear ?

couple of other bits there was no signs that i saw to say TTT was out of order, trick or treat closed around 5 or just before, fireball had many lights out and none of the seats were lit or the arms directly above.

Parrot show was good first time I've seen it for a long time.

No sign of northampton clown and think I only saw stitch in hobs pit.....my language was terrible.....( only on the first ride)

heard one guy said good to see the effort gone in for Halloween

Let's see what season end brings tomorrow.....

And so the final day of 2103........

Well with a big shout out to Ben for his kind offer and also for the rather posh souvenir card we both got we headed into the park.

I was expecting it to be much busier if im honest. Admittedly it was busier than yesterday but I was still surprised.

Brief reviews as did mention a lot yesterday....

Hobs Pit - personally for me the best time in 2013 for me was yesterday the first time we rode it - less actors again today - quite a hefty wait time too.

Horror Express - very long wait time and a different actor to yesterday it was not as good as yesterday IMO.

Satans maze was brilliant - a major shout to satan and ALL the guys in there - this attraction WAS world class - how can it be topped next year I ask ?

Sean's show was packed at 2pm and an additional show was added at 4.45pm I think mainly to keep people warm and entertained. The show was being filmed and although no official comment in the show unless there was at 4.45 - Sean will be back for 2014 I am certain.

FINALLY AFTER ALL MY MOANS OVER THE YEARS.... LOL...... most rides WERE working in the dark and until around 5.30pm !!!! Horray !!!!!!!! Doing fireball in the pitch black was ace - just a shame only a handful of the lights were turned on. Wipeout did stop early though as did jolly - think only pirate, fireball and kids ones kept going until around 5.30pm. What I don't understand other than wages to be paid is why this couldn't happen all of the week ??? - people expect them to be open.

The fireworks were very good although sadly I think a lot of people had gone as they were cold.

Some random stuff......

Only one sealion in show as there was a fight and you could see the blood - poor things - but he did his best to pull the show together.

TTT and mini railway not in use at all this weekend - not that I saw

Northampton Clown I assume didn't come in the end ?

No sign of Woody or even stitch before or after  fireworks - years ago he would always stand on entrance kiosks and wave us all goodbye - woody was seen at trick or treat a lot

Saw Joe's table and chair for book signing in shop but didn't see joe at all. Lots of copies of the book in the shop.

Shop by wipeout was closed after fireworks and even when it was opened nothing was marked down to be gotten rid off.

And so as we all made our way out and the staff all headed to the Harvester - I wonder what there thoughts were of the season.

Many thanks again to Ben and all the crew on site.

** Pictures show the final show times board of 2013 although this was taken before the 4.45pm Sean was added, Fireball and how so many lights were not in use plus Jolly in the background and  a firework pic - ( but then you knew that) !! **

Goodbye 2013 and now lets discuss winter and 2014...

I am so gutted that when I went on Hobs Pit live on Friday that there was only 1 actor in the main ride. I dunno what went wrong! Nice report Coolskin. Sean inferred that he would be back next year when talking about his DVD.

Can't be full of actors all the time, if they're short of staff, someone doesn't turn up or costs need to be cut.
It's a shame.

With all the high praise if the event, I think it shows a scare park should be an all year attraction.
It's a pity PHW's Halloween appears to focus on blood and gore than the more playful American way, but a horror park would be cool all year round.. how unique would that be? By the sounds of it the Scare maze should be kept if nothing else.

I don't agree. Thorpe Park tried it with Saw: Alive. I'm not sure when they closed it but it is now only open on Halloween. Halloween is an event and I think people like it like that. An all year round scare park would be a novelty worn off too easily in my opinion.

Does this mean Hobs pits should only open for Halloween?

It was just so varied Matt - impossible to compare - IMO the three times I did Hobs Pit over halloween week - one was severe one average and one very poor

Hobs Pit is a haunted house ride with a few maze elements so it works as an all year round attraction. Having a pure scare maze all year round for me wouldn't work plus the novelty of a Hallowe'en wouldn't be as exciting.

bubbles - in the same day i did ride hobs twice within a few hours and they couldnt have been more different - after 4pm the attractions were suppose to ramp up a gear - well this was the reverse for hobs IMO

Hobs was supposed to be the star attraction, the inconsistency meant Satan's was the show stopper. It's a shame especially after the hype and endorsement from an American newspaper. Hobs is Pleasurewood's baby and to be honest it should have been looked after like it was.

Interestingly, the writer on this blog described Hobs Pit as: "It truly is an outstanding attraction, my favourite Halloween attraction of the 2013 season".

What are your thoughts? Do you think someone who didn't experience "normal" Hobs Pit might have found more to like in the extreme version?

I unfortunately got the latter. It's annoying as I feel a bit hard done by as I would love to have seen the version that is well reviewed. Oh well there's always next year!
