27th June - PTR

Glad things are looking OK.

Its a shame the ops aren't on the ball, but it seems to be the 'norm' at PWH, despite all the 'team building' crap and recruitment process they have introduced.

Nice to hear JR is a top 'thrill' too. I always said MegaDrop was probably my fave tower ride, because like you say its a push rather than just released. Just needs a nice off season revamp!

Also, strangely no queue lane for the Lighthouse? It looks very odd and somewhat dumped on the end of the old kids bit. Would have been much smarter with the Red and White fence all around and just slighty up from the other rides. Minor niggle, but with effort going in elsewhere it'd be nice to see the standard throughout!

So, I was going to be by the coast today, and I had a few hours to kill, so why not!

Jolly didn't look as big as I was expecting it too. In fact, I couldn't even see in on my drive towards the park. This must be the same height as the old Mega Drop.

I spy...

First up, I head towards Jolly Enigma.

Enigma was closed, so I joined the queue for Roger, but Enigma soon opened so I bombed it down there.

It has certainly looked better....

So I rejoined Jolly's queue, but it was quite long, and hardly moving. There were 2 ride ops, yet only 1 could be bothered to anything, and they spent most of the time talking, great! Just what is required when the park is very, very busy!

Yeah, I forgot to mention, it was heaving, and not just with school kids.

So I left the queue for Jolly and headed towards Tales of the Coast. Masive queue, and only 2 boats, so I backed out and went over to Wipeout.

The tall fencing with all them slats blocks out the nice scenery from a distance, which is a shame as the park is looking good (in ways...)

Ew, them ride signs are horrid!

Wipeout was closed, so I headed down the arse end of the park

I dont even know if LL was open today, never spotted any activity around it...

Balloons were looking good, but SITG and Dodgems are still in a state.

The lake could do with.......something....

The station that never was.

I actually cant wait to see it running again, I think it looks quite nice when its at full tilt, so I'm intregued to see it in action in its new home with its new look.

The Castle is looking good after some tlc.

Pony Trek does genuinely look nicer in person than in pics.

Shame about its very rust roof though...

I noticed these little shelters that are popping up all over the park. And yes, Wavebreaker was closed.

Its surprising what some basic improvements can do for such an old ride!

I didn't lower myself to riding it, especially on my own, with kids everywhere. I would have got some funny looks...

This back corner is so much better now! And the Merry Mariner is just as good as it has always been in my eyes. The new menu is good, the pizza is lush and the prices weren't too bad really. £1.45 for a slice of a Chicago Town Pizza cant be moaned at really.

SUCH an improvement on last year!

Weirdly, despite the height, the actual gondola doesn't go up much higher than this...

You will struggle to find fault with that back area of the park, it really is lovely (apart from that roof). Whilst there are some rides that look awful; Enigma, Jolly, SITG, Dodgems and TotC, this area of the park had nothing like that in sight.

So, after the Chair Lift, I made the effort to go on Sky Hooks, as it does look inviting now. Didn't seem to go as fast as I remember, but that may just be me. But my WORD, it takes an absolute AGE to stop!

They just need a few rides by Wavebreaker to make this area perfect. A little thrill ride would be good to keep the balance right.

After, I ate in the Merry Mariner, and headed over the midday Sea Lion Show.

This made me LOLz.

This is seems an awful location for a kids ride, it could do with being put by Wavebreaker really.

Looking very bare..

Generic PWH photo!

Main St shop still closed, and not showing any signs of reopening soon... I wonder what is actually going on here? Its a big shame for 2 reasons really; it was a good shop, and now the merchandise selection is very poor. The only shop is the Emporium by the entrance, and there is no ride merchandise in there (Jolly and Wipeout, used to be lots for both rides!), no mugs, just your usual school stuff and teddies - which actually looked quite good, they had Woody, parrot and a sea lion all with the park logo on.

Actually, whilst waiting for Merry Mariner to open, I had a quick spin on the Miniature Train - which has lost a few carriages, so like most other rides, is now suffering with poor(er) capacity.

Didn't bother with Fireball for the reasons mentioned in the other topic.

Is that TotC theming lying next to Fireball? Nice to see lots of materials for further improvements, especially on paving, because as I said last year, the paving around the park is so random!

For how busy the park was, the Sea Lion seemed pretty empty. But that could be to do with the mess of up of show times with this and the Confusionist, which started at 11:30, and last 35 mins, yet this show started at midday.

Was great to see SO many new tricks in the show, it was like watching a completely new show! Bravo PW!

Balacing the tray of drinks was very impressive!

After the Sea Lion show, I only had 1 hour left of ride time, as I was planning on watching the 1:30 Confusionist, then leave. So first up, was Jolly, regardless of the queue.

I had to laugh as there were some chavs in front of me (you can see them joining the queue [blue +black/white]), and they proper chavs, being all offensive and what not, yet they nearly cried when we got on!HA!

Some of the warnings on here made me laugh.

Having ridden the Intamin tower recently, and now this, and can safely say that these Fabbri towers are FAR superior to the Intamin Towers - the sheer force it send you down with is just incredible, and the height is perfect for such adrenaline, as on the taller towers the adrenaline does fade away as you drop for longer - especially as its just a drop, and not a forced drop.

So Wipeout had opened by now, I headed over in that direction.

BIG queue, bad news. They weren't running a full train, keeping 2 cars empty, plus they weren't even filling up the seats they were using, even though the queue was huge. This, plus the ops (just like on Jolly) just chatting, casually trotting about, ment I had to leave the queue if I wanted to see the show. NEVER MIND THE MASSIVE QUEUE IN THE MUGGY HEAT, JUST YOU KEEP CHATTING AND LEAVING SEATS EMPTY. grrz.

So I thought I'd go give TotC another go.

They haven't done much with the old play area site.

This really is SO much bigger in person, its a great touch, and I'd love to see more little touches like this in the future.

Oh, and Veteran Cars have lost the random sea creatures on their bonnets, and in general it looks a bit nicer.

TotC queue was too long. So thats like a 4 ride I've had to walk away from due to awful capacity!

Little mounds like this have appeared around the park, to cover up unsightly views. Will look a lot better when its green!

I didn't bother with Timber Falls, again long queue, but I ain't riding a log flume on my own! < tit. (oh, and I like the new different coloured boats)

Two things to note, they done a great job of covering up where Sky Hooks used to be, and the shrub area is a great touch, keep it up!

So I had a wander, then went to watch the show.

And what a show. I'm not going to ruin it for you, but its probably the best show we've had since CBTV. Some parts are cheesey, and for most of it, its very OTT, like something you'd see in Vegas, but its great. The sound, lighting, all of it was fab and of such a high quality. I especially loved the screens telling you how to do magic tricks whilst you wait for the show to start.

And thats it, after that I headed home. On the whole, its such a better park compared to last year. Its far from perfect, but if they carry on with what they have done so far, in the few years the park could really be something special!

^ It did open, I just forgot to mention it. Had a big queue, but only one lane was open. #asalways

Also, strangely no queue lane for the Lighthouse? It looks very odd and somewhat dumped on the end of the old kids bit.

Yeah, I think it wold have been better placing with the Woodycoptors maybe, though I guess it would have been out of view there.

Oh, and as much as some of the staff weren't up to it, all the staff I encountered were really friendly and nice, even the big chap on Jolly was very polite (he just needs to speed up a bit when there's a queue). I noticed in the little booth on the Chairlift that there was a note from Alexis, saying something like "You are in a happy place now", with a big picture of smiling smiley, then saying something like "dont for get to smile". Hats off to them, its definitely working.

So wavebreaker was shut all day ? Great photos and report. So tragic about Fireball, I am not sure I will go this year to be honest. Fireball is one of my fav rides there and its quite simply not worth going on.

I totally agree with the comments about the staff, on my recent visit everyone I came into contact with was cheerful and helpful. Compare this to a year or two ago when I remember commenting about the "jack the lads" running the go karts and the general apethy of others!

When i have been there, there hasn't really been a queue, maximum of 5 or 6 people at a time, and sky hooks is great, i have heard people asking if it is brand new.

Nice trip report Martyn. I can always count on you for photos of general forum interest! Park looks good in places but still needs a lot of work in others. Great report!

Glad you had a good time Martyn. We're looking to get the rest of the park looking like the childrens area next year. We're very much looking forward to it!

Good to hear that the rest of the park is going to be looked after. I look forward to seeing what happens with Enigma etc. Once the park has been completely tidied up, they should then be able to move it step up with some real theming.

Oh, and if you (Lawrence) want to use any of these photo's for the main park website (ie Sky Hooks/Timber Falls, as last time I checked they were old pics), you're more than welcome (same goes for you too Matt, for this site).
