Trip Report 31/3/12

So, are they compensating at all for an awful day? I'd expect them to at least reduce the entrance fee to something like £12, PLUS a half price voucher to return later in the year.

And it seems odd to not offer complimentary rides on the Go-Karts. I remember when I visited on a first day, and them awful Waltzers had broken, so they offered free Go-Karts!

Does anyone really think that jolly will be replaced ? With that latest planning application confirmed i think it secures jollys future with us. It looks like it should be at the pleasurebeach or at the yarm fair due in a fortnite.

Any responses from management on twitter or facebook to today ? any apoligies ?

First day open so thought would pop along.  My thoughts:

Jolly Roger - still looked very much like a travelling ride and didn't look very permanent - bodes well for a changeover next year.  Queue part is awful though, don't know how that will hold up during summer!

Enigma - it looks like the refurb is happening now rather than later as some people had thought.  There is scaffolding up on the starting slope, so hopefully it should be fully operational later in the season.

Ride reliability - Had a bit of a poor run on this.  The lighthouse ride took ages to get off (got stuck about half way up on way down, or almost stuck going down at a rate of 1cm a minute! Went on veteran cars and there was some kind of short circuit half way though the track causing it to catch fire while on the ride!  Pony Trail pony managed to get stuck once my brother went on it (incidentally all 3 of these ride issues happened in a row).  Although not a ride, there were still a few bits and bobs left over from halloween around the park (skeletons, posters, the hut near where the helter skelter was).  No

Food - I thought was improved on last year, better choices more appropriate for a theme park.  Not too badly priced either for a contained environment.

Tales of the Coast - Disappointed to see nothing had been done on this at all, doors propped open, and none or nearly none of the props are now moving in the tunnel.

Tide Traveller (Thunderstruck) - Didn't look anywhere near being ready, so some way to go before it is operational.  Location looks like it would suit it though.

Sean Alexander - quite a well thought out show, there was a bit of audience participation which was done, it felt very awkward though (perhaps more adult orientated than child).  Some of the tricks were very well done, although some were perhaps a bit too obvious how they were done!

Park in general - It had generally been tidied and paint and repairs (including random bits of tarmac everywhere).

Still a good day out overall.  Interesting to see Laurence in the park while was there.

The pic on UK Park News FB shows this off nicely.... its looks shocking. What did you think of the ride?

I thought it was quite good. Good air suspense so you don't know when the drop was coming. I've been on quite a few drop rides over the years and I am sure this was faster going down than those - so much so that both my brother and sister who went on it with me said they had funny feelings in their feet, although I didn't get any of that so don't know for sure!

Yes, the whole area around Jolly just looks awful!

Looks like they've themed the backflash though?

Yes they have, check out the Jolly thread, there's a pic in there.

The whole Jolly ride area reminds me of the old PWH (ie Sky Screamer days...). I really do hope they do something, putting them bloody trees back would help!

Just in case anyone hasn't seen it this is from UK Park news' Facebook.

MegaDrop looked better, the contol booth is shocking, no queue lane and and like you say ^Martyn, the trees are missed big time! Such an effort around Sky Hooks etc, but not the major new ride? Makes no sense, yes i know it only arrived two weeks ago, but come on!

right first things first, the lighthouse was like that in the morning but then they got it fixed up and working properly so it didn't take so long to go down, Totc disappointed me, needs a refurb tbh, boats kept catching, tide traveller, Sean alexander was great (although i did happen to know one or two of the Angels) , park in general i noticed the weird tarmacing and the fact that instead of replacing the whole fence, they replaced only certain bits, me and reece spoke with laurence, the reasons for the malfunctions is because all the rides were switched on at the same time which called problems with certain rides, also there was a fire in the chip and dip near rattlesnake because the lady in there wasn't told that here fire was broken.

i know angel rebecca voiceoverguy, goes to my sixth form college, but yh i liked the suggestiveness, it was a very good show. didn't like the way that they were trying to sell that light trick before the show and then the first interactive trick, the symbols flashed up too quick so you couldn't see the symbol.

Actually, only the double seaters were running on the go karts today, although as that was the case it did mean people who wanted to be on their own could drive them single rider.  From what I can gather they may be revising the rules on it soon (not that overall it will make too much difference).

Saw that a few times too.  They had also done that with steps in the sea lion show!  There were still a few random posts etc broken (one near wipeout stands out in particular).

What do you mean by that?

They give out crib sheets at the start with the rules (ie no speeding in the pit lane), sounds like they are going to change them slightly although probably more of the same.

Defensive driving is an art form! I know I did it a lot when I was on it, couldn't find any rear grip.
