The Laser Labyrinth

So what do we reckon it is? I had a long think about this, and I think it could well be a revamp of the Fairytale Fantasy ride (it is the closest thing we have to a 'labrynth').

If you really think about it, I cant see it being like the normal Laser Quest we see on Yarmouth's seafront, for a few reasons, where would it go? If it was free to use the queue's would get ridiculous, and if you had to pay, no one would use it. With that in mind, surely it has to have a half decent through-put?

The only thing that puts me off it being a revamp of FTF is the cost, £65k ain't that much really.

Apart from all that, I still think its a stupid move, because how the hell does a Laser attraction fit in with the parks Nautical theme? disbelief.gif

Discuss......

RE: The 'new' Laser Attraction thingy

65k could just about cover for new cars, theming and lasers. I do think a quasar type atraction would be awful a pleasurewood. but what if it was some kind of walk through attraction?

Hmm, as i said in the other thread as nuch as a 'ride' along these line would have been great, its the small figure of £65K which suggests to me a quasar style thing, or just some sort of side stall (like the soccer thing which appeared near the mouse a few years back)........

HOWEVER: A walkthrough adventure would be better, rather than a 'battle' zone, like on GY seafront.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but did Camelot not introduce something similar about 10 yrs ago???????????????

No idea about Camelot Andy, sorry.

I think 65k could do a 'cheap' job for a laser ride, but obviously it wouldn't be anything like Duel!lol

One thing though, doesn't the park use an outside firm for the games stalls? I really cant see it being anything like that. They surely wouldn't advertise a new games stall as new attraction?

I think i may be getting it mixed up with a 'roller skating' type attraction - 1999 i think?

Obvioulsy i hope its not a stall, but the soccer thing i'm referring to appeared at several parks, you would get your score and check online for a leaderboard, i'm thinking something similar with lasers / hit rate might occur? I suppose a part of me goes along with this idea because of the amount of times we've been let down by PWH - you see if it is a ride/walkthru, i'll be happy :D

I hope the "laser ride attraction thingy mabob" that has been semi-announced is a ride based system. Although the small budget (comparable with other rides) does suggest a traditional laser quest I agree that it was be a poor addition to a theme park.

Laser quest attractions have a very limited throughput due to the amount of players that it can take at any one time plus the initial set up before each round.

I think that an overhaul of the Fairytale Fantasy ride could be a possibility but I would assume that it would have to have a whole new transport system as I can't see them being able to use the current one as the cars are too small for an adult (modified they could be though). New cars would be very costly I would imagine (although I have absolutely NO IDEA how much these things cost).

Hopefully this attraction might be in store for us later on this year and another new ride in 2012 :) I can but dream.

I just really cannot see them spending £65k on a games stall attraction, and nor can I see it being a standard Laser Quest. Yet £65k isn't reall enough for a decent revamp of a dark ride.

If the old manager was still in charge (the fella with the French name), the one who saw through developements such as Wipeout, Timber Falls, and the revamp of all the restaurants, then I would be confident that what ever it is, it would be good. But as it stands, I have absolutely no clue what so ever.

Lets just hope it was a printin error and was supposed to say £650k ;)

New for 2011: The Laser Attraction...

I asked some manager type person and someone on maintenance about the new laser attraction thingy, they said it will go under the castle theatre aas there is another floor under neath the castle.

Making good use of the space I suppose, but still a very odd addition to a theme park.

But ya never know, it may be different to usual Quaser/Laser Quest.

I'm struggling here - surely the main floor in the castle slopes downwards towards the stage?

There may be some room, but i can't see much?

^ Well think about it, the path way up to the entrance is an upward slop, and the miniature train runs below it. So if you can picture being on the train as its goes by the catle, all that you can see on the righthand side is technically like the basement to the Castle.

I still cant see this being like a Laser Quest attraction, because they require quite a few players, and on a quiet day, you could end up waiting around for a quite a while for other people wanting to play.

Also, I dont think a futuristic laser attraction goes well with the Castle's rustic theme.

Say it was a ride based shooter then what themeing would it be? surfing like wipeout, A Castle theme, Maritime or something completly different?

I now highly doubt its an actual ride based shooter. Has to be walk through.

Walk through? Hmm.... it could well be possible to have it like that, it would work, as the walk through horror mazes have prooved. Would be much better than just having a Quasar.

Exploding onto the park in 2011 is the new £65,000 indoor 'Laser Labyrinth' game, an energetic laser game that is suitable children and adults and will make an exciting new addition for adrenalin seeking visitors or parites.

Hmm.... the 'game' and 'parties' referene definitely points it towards being a Laser Quest style attraction, which would be very disappointing to be honest, and quite a strange addition to a theme park..

:(

I dont think they'd be giving it so much press if it was a pay per ride attraction

Although Flamingoland have a laser shootout game for kids, its held inside a wooden fort - very popular with Fathers and sons! Given that PWH is very much a family park - its a logical choice but still a crap addition to the park!

There's now an article on this on their website:

http://www.pleasurewoodhills.com/s15a1n79p1/New-for-2011-Laser-Labyrinth.html

How tacky.

And note whats said at the bottom:

*Labyrinth operates on a seperate timetable to Pleasurewood Hills

Huh?

It's bound to be a separate pay attraction if that's the case! And yes that logo is awful, hopefully it's temporary :/

Yes it is a tad disappointing but it's not a major investment compared to a ride. Hopefully fingers crossed we get something for 2012 especially as tourism should increase due to the Olympics.

New for 2011: Laser Labrinth

Its not a major attraction, but IMO it is a complete waste of £65,000, which could have been spent on improving Enigma.

I hope you have given them some stick for this on Twitter, Josh! biggrin.gif

Just thinking about this Laser Labyrinth, we really shouldn't be too hasty in bashing it. Let's see how it pans out when it opens then we can slate it wink.gif

COULD be worse, Pleasure Island have those 'Water Walker' things coming this year, and are advertising them as a new ride/attraction lol. 'Aquaspheres'.

Thinking about the Laser Labyrinth, they have the potential to earn the park extra dosh, through parties (on and off season) and through corporate days too, something which they have been keen on doing. A Laser Labyrinth / Wipeout experience corporate day would be awesome.

RE: New for 2011: Laser Labyrinth

Yeah, Pleasure Island's 2011 addition isn't much, but they still get new rides every couple of years, which Pleasurewood dont.

Again, it frustrates me SO much to see how many half decent rides there are for sale, yet Pleasurewood just aren't interested. And you dont even need planning permission for a travelling ride!

I say get Petter Hadden back in on the management team! The park was pretty run down when he was in charge, but at least we saw new on rides on a yearly basis.

I have an early edition of the (i think its) 2004 tourist leaflet which has a pic of a Vekoma Junior coaster on it! IF ONLY this deal has gone through........
