Walkthrough Ghost House on Golden Mile

Does anyone remember this? it was quite near to the pleasurebeach, not far from the hippadrome, near the windmill on the front strip. It had a mediaval theme and a massive arch way to enter - looked like a dungeon, complete with man in jail rattling chains etc!

I was alway too young to go in and when i was old enough it was gone replaced by a Ghost Hunters attraction.

Well themed but a complete rip off - walk round, then a glorifiued arcade game to play on at the end.

Must of been late 80s - mid 90s.

Anyone remember this?

I take that as a resounding "no" then!

I think I know what you mean. Was it in the 'Zen' building or something like that.
I believe a massive fire destroyed it.

...or am I thinking of another 'horror-cinema-style' attraction along there?

He(old man in the jail) was in the centre and the kiosk was to the right.

Do you remember the walkthrough ghost house at the Pleasure Beach?. Quite good and fairly scary!

Yes, Sheer Terror!

It was the talk of the County for a while, scariest thing seen for ages!

But then they kept 'taming' it down each year, and eventually it never had any live actors in it, it just became a walkthrough ghost train!

"One, two Freddies coming for you.........Three, Four gonna knock at your door"

Sheer Terror doesn't even come close!

I think the Haunted Hotel at the PB is not bad for a Ghost Train! Quite Big if i remember rightly.

Its alright I suppose. They moved that music from Sheer Terror to the Haunted Hotel when they closed it, it certainly makes it a bit creepier!

I've never been but it all sounds like the London Bridge Expirnce in London, which is fantastic.

I always thought PWH could do with a horror attarction perhaps replacing that fairytale fantasy ride bleh

PWH has the Haunted Castle which i thought was excellent. Quite scary too.

I think they should put rattlesnake in the dark - cover it over and turn it into a ghoster coaster. Slow enough to be able to still see things as  you go round - a big lift hill with sound effects to build tension. Could be good!

Or the boat ride - now that could be proper scary!

^ Yeah if done properly, Tales of the Coast could be very scary. But I think it would be best to turn the Fairytale Fantasy ride in to a Haunted Attraction. Give it a nautical theme, as if you're exploring a ship thats at the bottom of the ocean etc.

But we cant have that, no, thats not kiddie enough for PWH!lol

True but it's about time that PWH started to put themselves on the map with something original. Don't get me wrong there is plenty of originality at PWH but only in a quaint way, nothing that could really try and compete.

Flamingoland has done it and they have succeeded. Yes alright much bigger and sucessful but a similar park to PWH.

PWH needs to re-theme and re-vamp. Get creative cos you never know what coaster companies are looking to break into europe with a signature ride - Take oakwood for example - Megaphobia was a deal made with the coaster company, this when the owner still had the Farm at the back of the park! It is do- able!

Rant over!biggrin

I know this is diverting from the original topic of conversation but I have to agree with you guys that PWH does need something nice and original. Take Flamingoland's latest acquisition Mumbo Jumbo: the first in Europe of this model and one of only two in the world I believe. A marketing gold mine with this and the more than vertical drop. PWH need something of that nature and they could have a great year next year.

As for the FFR. Yes it is in need of replacement and Martyn that is a great idea for a theme; exploring a ship wreck. Brilliant!

Personally, as things stand, I dont think they need anything different. They just need more of what they have. That would bring guests back.

The park is lacking in the basic ride departments. I think with the size of the park, we'll only able to see unique flats, rather than coasters.

Though it does appear that nowadays the smaller coaster types are becoming more and more popular (Euro F's, El Loco...) We could see one of them I suppose.

The park must have seen Rage at Adventure Island, thats a tiny coaster that packs a big punch.

I reckon the park will get a Euro Fighter, but the big question is when....

I think pwh can make massive changes if they are prepared to think out of the box. 2nd hand coaster but enclose it or theme it in some way. get it to interact with out attractions!

cash must be major problem at the minute or the think tank is very limited!

I would probably say the think tank is empty. CdA is the largest amusment park chain in Europe!

It's a shame. Smaller parks like PWH need the support to survive. Do you think PWH will ever return to its former 1992 glory?

Mr Blobby ruined everything!

^ No way, they revived the park! They put it back on the map!

I think the park is looking the best it ever has done... looking back at some of the old photos Pleasurewood Hills looked SO bland and tacky. Compare it now, it feels like a proper theme park. A new ride will come, I'm sure of it!

Ultimately PWH is still recovering from the 1997-2001 era under Queensborough Holdings, who removed the popular rides such as the Enterprise, and anything else that they could get a few bucks for and replacing them with old fairground rubbish.

Mr Blobby and Noel Edmonds, while from what i understand taking a fair cut of gate money, gave the park some great coverage and two brilliant seasons. I'll never forget the days when Edmonds made a guest appearance and the car park was so full they had to park on the fields where the flags are now on the driveway. The queue for the Cannonball Express was out of the queue lane with three, if not four trains running. Good times.

But i agree with Patrick the park does look better now than ever. Just needs some decent flats and a top quality family ride.

I remember back in the early 90s not even being able to get into the park as it was at capacity. Thing is back then theme parks were in a sort of honeymoon period and were enjoying great success; they were new, fresh and exciting. Now it seems that theme parks can only attract mass crowds with very heavy investment which I don't think PWH can compete with unfortunately. We will obviously see investment in the future but a with park like PWH it will be very steady and modest.

In the early to mid 90's, Pleasurewood was more about being a fab day out, rather than a thriving theme park.

Only had 1 coaster back then, and not too mant flats. The main draw to Pleasurewood back then was that ALL the family could enjoy the day, it was much more relaxing back then.

The Golf Course, the massive Fort Fun, Minature Railway and Eye in the Sky weren't your everyday theme park attractions, and it was things like that, that made the park appeal to everyone, even your 'nan & grandad' would go for the day.

But now I feel the park is just about being a theme park, which isn't a bad thing at all, its just different to what it used to be about.

I'll never forget the days when Edmonds made a guest appearance and the car park was so full they had to park on the fields where the flags are now on the driveway

How often did they do that? I remember being in the car park with massive crowds, seeing the helicopter coming to land with Blobby and Noel! I have a pic with Noel outside the Castle Theatre after watching the HouseParty show!

^ I think he made two or three appearance in 95. At least one of those days they were using the drivway fields as overflow car parks.

Also i'm sure he gave charity helicopter rides throughout the day, which certain local residents saw fit to complain about....

I remember it from when I was really young and would love to find out alot more about it.

Nah it wasn't that. I remember the Ghostbusters too, the exterior looked so good (well it did when I was a child).

It had a simulator inside it (with quite a few films to choose from too), and a Ghostbusters themed laser quest style attraction thingy.
