Halloween 2009

This has just been posted on the official PH website:

THE TALE OF BURKETT MORDEN

THE YEAR IS 1609. THE FOLK OF CORTONWOODVILLAGE IN SUFFOLKCOUNTY ARE UNDER SIEGE. A MURDERER IS AT LARGE AND OVER 15 FOLK HAVE BEEN KILLED.

A local man, the farm worker Burkett Morden, is held and tried as the prime suspect for the killings.

Burkett pleads his innocence throughout the trial but is found guilty on all counts and sentenced to be hung from the gallows tree in Corton Great Wood.

As he is hung, Burkett curses the villagers that he will have his revenge on those who wronged him.

After his hanging, Burkett’s body is propped up in the local fields as a scarecrow to warn others against committing such atrocities.

pic-stich.jpg

Burkett, now dead, makes a deal with the Devil so he can have his revenge. The devil agrees!!!!!!!!!!! But Burkett must act as an agent of evil for at least 400 years.

When someone in the locality died from thereon, the figure of a scarecrow would be seen nearby….In time, his spirit became known as “Stitch” the Devils scarecrow.

Mothers would warn their naughty children that Stitch would get them if the misbehaved.

It is now 400 years on and Stitch’s contract with the Devil is over

pic-scarecrow.jpg

Stitch is now free to find the descendants of those who wronged him so many years ago and he is to be found haunting the woods of Pleasurewood Hills where the dirty deeds were first done.

So!!

Are you local?

Have your family lived here for generations?

Do you dare to CROSS STICTCH!!!!!!

Who do they get to write this rubbish?

Yes there is a story, and yes it could be quite good - but they ruin it with terrible grammar, writing all in upper case and an extortianate amount of exclamation marks!

If they got it written a bit more professionally, it would seem so much more attractive.

Lol, Cross stitch, sin't that a hobby of middle aged women?

Good story though, nice to see some effort being put into halloween instead of just skeletons and pumpkins placed all over the park.

And I'm sure they'll sort the grammar out as it does stick out badly on the website compared to everything else that is done properly.

When I visited I saw some small theming preparation already in place around the small train in the woods.

There's actually some really good theming already in the woods on the small train. I was quite impressed with some of the displays as we went round.

As for the story - it just seems very rushed.

The story is ok - at least there is story! And the pics look pretty cool to.

The park has never been any good at Halloween events, so I wont get my hopes up just yet.

Yet it's something they do every year. Weird.

It's like the only leftover from "American Theme Park"

This tale looks quite good but the writing is so tacky! I hope this is part of the parks effort to become more "theme- parky" and actaully have some Halloween events.

Does Pleasure wood Hills do Halloween theming this time of year?

They have added a second part to the Halloween story. They also seem to be doing fireworks this year- does that usually happen? smile

Anybody else  think it starange that the only referance to the halloween story and late night opening/fireworks , are hidden away in the news events ?
i was expecting pleasurewood to have it on their main page about the halloween event, but if you just look at main page then theres no mention of any events,
chessington ect visit their site and the halloween events are on their main page, personally i think pleasurewood could be missing out on potential vistors by not advertising  the event  on their opening page? even a small halloween event click here for details on the main page may have grabbed a few peoples attention on passing the site :)

That is a very good point there datman. The Halloween events this year seem to have a lot of effort put into them and it'd be a shame if they missed out on potential visitors.

Btw, I am sorry to hear that your colleagues have gone missing! ;)

Wow how cool was THAT?! Good to see Pleasurewood Hills making a effort! smile
I agree it is a shame that they haven't advertised it on there main page at all- but if we could have some photos of the Halloween events that would be great!

Yeah thats a pretty good promo they've shot there. They should use a shortened version as a TV advert.

It is pretty scary for a park that is aimed heavily at families.

Very good advert and a very good webpage.

However I think they should have put it on a few weeks sooner- is there a TV ad aswell do you? The advertising has been great, if a little late.

It seems a little bit too long. I think they should do a TV advert- so many more people would know about it then!

I second that, I won't get a chance to see PH this Halloween so if any of you guys could get some photos that would be much appreciated. As for that costume, I didn't realise that it had been created especially! That is one heck of a mask, I should imagine that young children will be terrified!!

The second video isn't anywhere near as good as the first one. Its very tacky and you tell its a young man in that ridicuous wizards outfit. Doesn't seem like much effort was put into theat second clip.

I agree that the mask is very very good, it reminds me alot the 'thing' in Jeepers Creepers. To see scarecrows like that around the park would be very creepy.

Overall, this is all very good from Pleasurewood, especially for their first realyl attemp at a Halloween event.

If you want to be really picky, and I mean really picky, I dont like images of Stitch that flash up whilst he is moving and/or just standing there with loose shoulders looking random. I LOVE the flashing images of him in the videos when he looks creepy.

For example, in the first video, towards the end, when he 'runs' torwards the people, that bit would have been alot scarier if it had just flashed up with Stitch not moving, upon each flash, he would get closer, and bigger, but not moving. If that makes sense.

See, real picky!

Martyn I totally argee with your post- I was disappionted with the rather tacky and long video clip submitted. It seemed abit.. odd.

Who else thinks the first video should be posted on the website? biggrin
