It's all about the kids Martyn! They can't compete with Primevil.

That's a fair point, they are more established and would be difficult to compete against. 2013 was very ambitious, perhaps even more so than it really needed to be.

I think the term "family attraction" has perhaps been considered too narrowly by the park on occasion.

Pleasurewood Hills consists of rides for tiddlers, attractions for family groups and thrill rides for older kids, teens and adults. Wipeout, for example, is a big costly asset, but its presence can't just be ignored.

I think the Chessington approach of having one scare maze this season is a model that could work for PWH. That way, the variety of Halloween attractions would match the range of existing attractions.

But the park needs to understand that a Family also include teenagers and adults. it's getting too babyish for teens now and if the park isn't careful they'll lose guests.

They don't have anywhere for a scare maze anyway, not with the castle back in action, plus i doubt the park want to spend the money. But other than making masks, pumpkins and painting it's appears to just a normal day, their Halloween event doesn't have much of a selling point.

Good to see the billboards are back in action, missed seeing them this years.. but they've rebuilt the ones nears me (shell garage) and i see The Chills poster went up late last week.

Wasn't there talk of using some of the themeing and items from Hobs Pit this Halloween?

They don't have anywhere for scare mazes? There is currently 2 themed scare mazes in the park that sit there not doing much... the train and the basement in the Castle.

Family park or not, you can still cater for both kids and adults with 3 big scare mazes. At least PWH has rides to go on too, Primevil is just 4 mazes and that's it. And you only get to do them the once.

PWH could easily compete with them if they put the effort in, 2013 was a good start but it should have been repeated. Yes they will lose out at first, but as word would spread it would become more and more popular.

They would also need to open in the dark too.

They can't use the Castle, it's being up to use for shows this Halloween and Christmas. They only time they used it for a scare maze was when it was empty. If if they've got shows on, they'll be using the Basement.

As for the train, that hasn't been used since Hyper Drive was constructed, so not sure what they done with the interior. The only other option was the other half of Hobs pit which is currently closed, i was expecting that to be open for Halloween.

Train cannot be used for health and safety reasons sadly. Actually PWH October figures grew a lot more last year than the three previous years with their scare mazes. Also the year Atmosfear came was an awful Halloween numbers wise. Stuff is very much the same as last year. Possibly because the designer and marketing manager both left before at the end of the season and no new things were organised sadly?

I'm confident that the Horror Express was open whilst Hyper Drive was there.

Yeah the numbers for the mega event in 2013 were poor because of all their previous attempts. Had they have stuck to the same event again in 2014 and so on, you could guarantee that we'd have a incredibly popular event on the cards.

But alas, Ben and Alexis left and literally everything went down hill.

Even if the train was in action while Hyper Drive was installed it's no longer safe to use as Clarence confirms.

But i agree previous naff events is what effected the 2013 numbers, while numbers were low the quality and guest satisfaction was very high, and the Maze highly acclaim, that knock on effect is what kept people coming back.

We'll see how the numbers are this year, if they didn't like it last year they wont be returning.
Personally i think they'll be find and do just as well as previous years, guest still seem to be having fun... although no Hobs this year which was a crowd pleaser for the season.

Hope for some good weather too.

The cost to have Atmosfear was a huge chunk of the yearly events budget and was not viable in reality. The family Halloween has proved popular for the last 3 years growing in attendance year on year proving it was the correct move. The walk through train was used for 2 years. Including one while Hyperdrive was there. The whole train is rusted beyond repair. I bet the entire floor in there would need renewing and supporting.

why is the train still there? there must be some scrap value in this and it certainly adds nothing aesthetically anymore, quite the opposite imo

It's still there! I would look far better if it was removed.

No train should stay, it's iconic and historic.
They may invest in it later. Wouldn't want to see it go.

Its only iconic to those of us who have always known it there, just think what new guests must think, like why the f*** is that rusty old train there? Nostalgia for the sake of having a rotting old train sitting there which as we now know is no use unless money chucked at it is pointless, and ugly, you wanna leave the rattle snake sitting there too?

should all be scrapped over winter, and the money re-invested.

Still beyond me as to why nothing has been done with the TTT, it cannot be a complicated ride system given its age? I know somebody said HUSS came out but its not even the same company that built it as the original HUSS don't exist anymore, I'm sure some engineering company could figure it out? bit of out the box thinking surely needed

To be honest I think the nostalgic now has disappeared from the park sadly.

i did the walk through train two seasons in a row and hyper drive was not there unless i didnt see it.. ? i agree with martyn on the build and success of atmos fear as 2013 line up particulary satans circus was just on another level.

I’m not sure why people are going on about how much of an eyesore the train is (presuming you mean the one that used to be the restaurant?). It’s part of Hyper Drive’s theming, and stops that ride looking entirely pointless.

They clearly did that because it would have been too costly to maintain and that was the easy option, I think it looks great alongside HD tbh (even if I still don’t get the point of HD being there...)

I agree. As for Hyper Drive (just going off topic quickly) i wish they had spent in money refurbishing the old dodgems which are still better and much more fun, they could have easily moved it and make it look superb
